Gerald Smith (born November 30, 1943) is a Canadian politician. He represented the riding of Port au Port in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1993 to 2003 as a member of the Liberal Party. The son of John Thomas Smith, he was born in Lourdes and was educated there, at Memorial University and at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. In 1968, he married Barbara Radford. Before entering politics, Smith was a teacher and elementary school principal. He also served as mayor of Lourdes. Gerald Martin Smith (born 21 May 1955) is a British businessman and convicted fraudster. Early life Smith was born on 21 May 1955. He qualified as a physician. Business career In 1993, while chief executive of the Farr construction group, he was prosecuted for stealing £2 million from its pension fund and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. In 2002, Smith acquired 30% of Izodia plc through his investment company, Orb. He placed his own directors on the board and moved the main company bank account to Jersey where he stole money from it. In December 2002, the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) raided his home in Jersey and his company offices. By February 2005, criminal charges were being considered. On the day that Smith was to report with his lawyers to the SFO's offices, he was involved in a car crash and had to be cut from his Audi A8 after having run into a tree. Gerald Wilson Oliver Smith (June 26, 1892 – May 28, 1974) was an English-born actor who spent most of his career in the United States, both in New York City as a stage actor and in the Hollywood film industry. Born in Sidcup, Kent, England, Smith debuted as a music hall singer in London. He came to the United States as part of a London Gaiety Company production of ''To-night's the Night''. His Broadway career began in 1916, and he appeared in, among other productions, three George Gershwin musicals: '' Lady Be Good'' (1924), ''Oh, Kay!'' (1928) and ''Pardon My English'' (1933). Gerald Steadman Smith (December 15, 1929 – May 17, 2015) was a Canadian artist. Early life Smith was born in 1929 in West Head, Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia (NS). He spent his youth living with his parents, Lottie (Steadman) and Benjamin Smith, and two siblings, Sidney Smith and Dellas Smith Nickerson, on Cape Sable. Smith's early education (Grades 1–6) consisted of correspondence courses administered by the NS Department of Education. When he reached Grade 7 his father purchased a home in Clark's Harbour on Cape Sable Island so that the children could attend school on the mainland. The family home on Cape Sable was part of the Cape Sable Light Station, a lighthouse facility, which was operated by the Canadian Department of Transport. Lieutenant-Colonel Gerald Bryce Ferguson Smyth, DSO and Bar, French Croix de Guerre and Belgian Croix de guerre (7 September 1885 – 17 July 1920) was a British Army officer and police officer who was at the centre of a mutiny in the ranks of the Royal Irish Constabulary during the Irish War of Independence.
