Gerald Davis (politician)
Gerald M. Davis (born 1936) is an American politician from Maine. Career Davis, a Republican from Falmouth, represented District 11 in the Maine Senate from 2008 to 2010. He was defeated for re-election in 2010 by unenrolled (independent) Richard Woodbury of Yarmouth. Davis' Senate district covered part of Cumberland County, specifically Chebeague Island, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gray, Long Island, North Yarmouth and Yarmouth. He served in the Maine House of Representatives from 1996 to 2006. He also served on the Falmouth School Board. He taught history at Portland High School and served as a Peace Corps volunteer. A Roman Catholic, Davis opposed redefining marriage to include same sex marriage. Karl W. Turner (born March 23, 1942) is an American politician and businessperson from Maine. Turner served as a Republican State Senator from Maine's 11th District, representing part of Cumberland County, including the population centers of Falmouth and his residence in Cumberland. He served from 2000 to 2008, when he was replaced by fellow Republican Gerald Davis. Turner served on the town council of Falmouth, Maine from 1985 to 1991. A bill for the legalization of same-sex marriages was approved by voters, 53–47 percent, on November 6, 2012, as Maine, Maryland and Washington became the first U.S. states to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote. The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a public university with campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston in the U.S. state of Maine. It is the southernmost of the University of Maine System. It was founded as two separate state universities, Gorham Normal School and Portland University. Bates College
Bates College () is a private liberal arts college in Lewiston, Maine. Anchored by the Historic Quad, the campus of Bates totals with a small urban campus which includes 33 Victorian Houses as some of the dormitories. It maintains of nature preserve known as the " Bates-Morse Mountain" near Campbell Island and a coastal center on Atkins Bay.
