Georgios Rouphos
Georgios Roufos (Greek: Γεώργιος Ρούφος, 1841–1891) was a Greek politician and Mayor of Patras for three terms, 1870–1874, 1874–1875 and 1887–1891. He was the 11th mayor of Patras. He was the son of Benizelos Roufos, a Prime Minister of Greece and Mayor of Patras, he is descended from the Rouphos-Kanakaris families with many generations of politicians and descended from southern Italy. He studied law in Athens and northwest to Paris. He married Roxani Mavromichali (Ρωξάνη Μαυρομιχάλη) and raised a son Ioannis Roufos. In 1864, he was attorney at the national assembly. During his mayoral run, he constructed and opened the Apollo Theatre, opened a public hospital, began the construction of wave braker at the Port of Patras, localized the opening of Georgiou I Square and ran the gaslight factory 1 km south-southwest of downtown. Modern Drachma
The ''drachma'' ( el, δραχμή) was the official currency of modern Greece from 1832 until the launch of the euro in 2001. First modern drachma The drachma was reintroduced in May 1832, shortly before the establishment of the Kingdom of Greece. It replaced the ''phoenix'' at par. The drachma was subdivided into 100 lepta. Coins The first coinage consisted of copper denominations of 1λ, 2λ, 5λ and 10λ, silver denominations of ₯, ₯, ₯1 and ₯5 and a gold coin of ₯20. Aristomenis Kontogouris
Aristomenis Kontogouris ( el, Αριστομένης Κοντογούρης; c. 1841–1904) was a Greek MP for Achaia and a mayor of Patras. Kontogouris was born in Patras and was the son of Stylianos Kontogouris, relative of the famous rich family in Patras. He studied law in Athens, Berlin, and in Paris. He was elected MP in 1873, 1879, 1881, and 1885 and he was also a Minister of Justice. He became mayor of Patras from 1891 until 1895. Dimitrios Patrinos
Dimitrios Patrinos ( el, Δημήτριος Πατρινός, died 1903) was a Greek MP for Achaia and a mayor of Patras. Patrinos was born in Patras and was the only son of merchant and politician Panagiotis Patrinos. He was first elected MP in 1868. He became mayor of the city of Patras where he served from 1883 until 1887. He took over the municipality with 400,000 drachmas in debt. During his tenure he caused a lot of backlash for his insistence on establishing a municipal secret police. He died in 1903.
