Georgios Helakis
Georgios (George) Helakis () is a Greek sports journalist, famous for his passionate live radio broadcasting of international football matches, particularly Champions League and 2004 UEFA European Championship. During Euro 2004 opening match he compared the Greece national football team to a ''pirate ship'', a name which has become the official nickname of the squad since Greece won the tournament. Born in the village Seliana in Aigeira in 1964, Helakis is co-owner and commentator for numerous sports media outlets, including ''SportDay'' (Greece's best selling sports daily) and SportFM (Greece's most popular sports radio station). For a short period in the late 2000s, he had also been chairman of Panegialios FC, the semi-professional club of his home town. Seliana
Seliana ( el, Σελιάνα) also known as Phelloe ( el, Φελλόη) is a village in the municipal unit of Aigeira, in the eastern part of Achaea, north Peloponnese, Greece. The village had a population of 52 in 2011. Aigeira is 10 km to the north, and Kalavryta is 21 km to the west. Seliana is connected by a 19 km road that leads to the town of Aegeira and the Greek National Road 8A, Athens - Corinth - Aigeira - Patras. Geography The village is built at an altitude of ~750 m on the foothills of the fir forest of Sarantapikho and on the eastern slope of the valley of river Krios. The forest lies between the villages of Seliana, Perithori, Sarantapikho and Zarouchla and it is the largest forest of Achaea consisting mainly of black pine trees, firs and chestnuts. 2007 Greek Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Greece on Sunday, 16 September 2007 to elect the 300 members of the Hellenic Parliament. The leading party for a second term was New Democracy under the leadership of Kostas Karamanlis with 42%, followed by George Papandreou and PASOK with 38%. New Democracy managed to secure an absolute but narrow majority of 152 out of 300 seats in parliament. The populist Popular Orthodox Rally entered the parliament for the first time with 10 seats, while the parties of the left, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and Syriza, enjoyed a significant increase in their vote share. KKE received 8% of the votes (up from 6%) and won 22 seats (from 12), while Syriza received 5% of the votes (up 2pp) and 14 seats. 2006 Greek Local Elections
The 2006 Greek local elections elected representatives to Greece's 3 super-prefectures, 54 prefectures, provinces, and approximately 1,033 communities and municipalities. The elections took place on Sunday, 15 October 2006 from 7am to 7pm. According to the New Code for Municipalities and Communities, a platform gains the absolute majority of the seats if it has more than 42% of the votes. If no platform achieves that, then there is a second round, one week later. The ballot in the second round includes the two platforms which garnered the most votes in the 1st week.
