The Georgian Mid Ontario Junior C Hockey League is a former Junior "C" ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada, sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association. The Champion of the league competed for the All-Ontario Championship and the Clarence Schmalz Cup. In the summer of 2016, the GMOHL merged into the Provincial Junior Hockey League and became the Carruthers Division in the Northern Conference. History Dating back to the late 1940s, the Georgian Bay League featured teams like the Owen Sound Greys, Barrie Colts, and Collingwood Blues. Schomberg Cougars
The Schomberg Cougars are a junior ice hockey team based in Schomberg, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League until 2016 when the league merged into the Provincial Junior Hockey League. History The Schomberg Cougars Hockey Club was founded in 1969 as a member of the Eastern Junior D League, but moved to the South-Central Junior D Hockey League in 1971. The founders were John Archibald, George Crane, Geoff Hogan, and Len Taylor. There had been a Junior team from the Metro Junior B Hockey League playing for a few years in the early 1960s. In 1971 Archibald visited eight adjoining municipalities to encourage them to enter junior teams and from that Alliston, Bradford, Keswick, and Orangeville came on board. Fergus is the largest community in Centre Wellington, a township within Wellington County in Ontario, Canada. It lies on the Grand River about 18 km NNW of Guelph. The Fergus Devils were a Junior ice hockey team based in Fergus, Ontario, Canada. They played in the former Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League (now a part of the PJHL),. In 1979-80, while in the Northern, the Green Machine picked up a 16-year-old Scottish defenseman named James Stephen Smith. Erin is a town in Wellington County, approximately northwest of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Erin Shamrocks were a junior ice hockey team based in Erin, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League. History The Acton Sabres were founded in 1971 as a member of the South-Central Junior D Hockey League. In 1973, the league was promoted and changed to the Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League. In 1976, the league changed its name to the Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League, but the Sabres had bigger ambitions and opted out of the league to join the Central Ontario Junior B Hockey League and compete against their local rival the Georgetown Gemini. The Sabres played in the Central Junior B League until 1984. They sat out the 1984-85 season before moving down to the Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League. Alliston is a settlement in Simcoe County in the Canadian province of Ontario. It has been part of the Town of New Tecumseth since the 1991 amalgamation of Alliston and nearby villages of Beeton, Tottenham, and the Township of Tecumseth.
