Georgia State Senate Election, 2018
The 2018 Georgia State Senate elections took place as part of the biennial United States elections. Georgia voters elected state senators in all 56 of the state senate's districts. State senators serve two-year terms in the Georgia State Senate. A primary election on May 22, 2018 determined which candidates appear on the November 6 general election ballot. Primary election results can be obtained from the Georgia Secretary of State's website. Georgia State Senate
The Georgia State Senate is the upper house of the Georgia General Assembly, in the U.S. state of Georgia. Legal provisions The Georgia State Senate is the upper house of the Georgia General Assembly, with the lower house being the Georgia House of Representatives. Both bodies are constitutionally required to convene annually at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta. The General Assembly begins each yearly session on the second Monday in January. From that date of convention, sessions last for 40 legislative days. The General Assembly may call for special sessions by a three-fifths vote of the members in each chamber. Special sessions in Georgia may span a maximum of 40 days. Jack S. Hill (July 15, 1944 – April 6, 2020) was an American politician. A member of the Republican Party, he represented Georgia's 4th District in the Georgia State Senate. At the time of his death, he was the longest-serving Georgia State Senator. Personal Jack Hill was born in Reidsville, Georgia. He was a retired grocer and his wife, Ruth Ann, was an elementary school principal. Together, they had three children and seven grandchildren. Hill was a graduate of Reidsville High School and Georgia Southern University. He served in the Georgia Air National Guard for 33 years, both as a unit commander and State Inspector General.
