State Route 70 (SR 70) is a state highway that travels southwest-to-northeast through portions of Coweta and Fulton counties in the north-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway connects Newnan with the west-central part of Atlanta. Route description Coweta County SR 70 begins at an intersection with US 29/ SR 14 in the northwestern part of Newnan in the central part of Coweta County. At this intersection, the roadway continues as Sprayberry Road. SR 70 travels to the west and immediately curves to the northwest. It leaves Newnan and intersects SR 34 Byp. Newnan, Georgia
Newnan is a city in Metro Atlanta and the county seat of Coweta County, Georgia, about southwest of Atlanta. Its population was 42,549 at the 2020 census, up from 33,039 in 2010. History Newnan was established as county seat of Coweta County (replacing the defunct town of Bullsboro) in 1828, and was named for North Carolinian General Daniel Newnan. It quickly became a prosperous magnet for lawyers, doctors, other professionals, and merchants. Much of Newnan's prosperity was due to its thriving cotton industry, which relied on slavery. Newnan was largely untouched by the Civil War due to its status as a hospital city (for both Union and Confederate troops), and as a result still features much antebellum architecture. State Route 14 (SR 14) is a state highway that travels southwest-to-northeast through portions of Troup, Coweta, and Fulton counties in the west-central and north-central parts of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway connects the Alabama state line in West Point to Downtown Atlanta, via LaGrange, Fairburn, College Park, and East Point. Except for the northernmost segment, it is entirely concurrent with U.S. Route 29 (US 29). State Route 8 (SR 8) is a state highway that travels west-to-east through portions of Haralson, Carroll, Douglas, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Madison, Franklin, and Hart counties, bisecting the northern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. State Route 139 (SR 139) is a state highway in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels within portions of Clayton, Fulton, and Cobb counties and connects the southern suburbs of Atlanta with the town of Mableton, west of the city. Route description SR 139 begins at an intersection with SR 85 in the southern part of the town of Riverdale, in Clayton County. It heads northwest to the city of College Park. In the town, it first has an interchange with Interstate 285 (I-285). State Route 166 (SR 166) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Georgia. It connects the Alabama state line with the city of Atlanta.
