State Route 358 (SR 358) is a west–east state highway located entirely in the southeastern part of Twiggs County in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It is mainly a rural route. The highway was built along its current alignment between 1963 and 1966. Route description SR 358 begins at an intersection with SR 96 south-southeast of Jeffersonville. The route travels to the east-northeast along Homer Chance Highway to an interchange with Interstate 16 (I-16) just east of its midpoint. It continues to the east-northeast and meets its eastern terminus, an intersection with US 80/ SR 19 west of Danville. SR 358 is not part of the National Highway System, a system of roadways important to the nation's economy, defense, and mobility. The city of Jeffersonville is the largest city and county seat of Twiggs County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,035 at the 2010 census, down from 1,209 in 2000. Jeffersonville is part of the Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The city was named after the Jefferson family of settlers. Jeffersonville was named county seat in 1868, when the seat was transferred from Marion. Geography Jeffersonville is located at (32.683982, -83.339683). Danville is a town in Twiggs and Wilkinson counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. The population was 238 at the 2010 census, down from 373 in 2000. The Twiggs County portion of Danville is part of the Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Danville was originally called "Hughes", and under that name had its start about 1891 when the railroad was extended to that point. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the place in 1905 as the "Town of Danville". The town was named for Daniel G. Hughes, father of U.S. Representative Dudley Mays Hughes. Twiggs County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,022. The county seat is Jeffersonville. The county was created on December 14, 1809, and named for American Revolutionary War general John Twiggs. Twiggs County is included in the Macon, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. State Route 96 (SR 96) is a state highway that travels west-to-east through portions of Talbot, Taylor, Crawford, Peach, Houston, Twiggs, and Wilkinson counties in the west-central and central parts of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway travels from its western terminus at US 80/ SR 22/ SR 41/ SR 540 in Geneva to its eastern terminus at US 441/ SR 29 south-southeast of Irwinton. Interstate 16 (I-16), also known as Jim Gillis Historic Savannah Parkway, is an east–west Interstate Highway located entirely within the US state of Georgia. It carries the hidden designation of State Route 404 (SR 404) for its entire length. I-16 travels from downtown Macon, at an interchange with I-75 and SR 540 to downtown Savannah at Montgomery Street (exit 167B).
