State Route 130 (SR 130) is a state highway that travels southwest-to-northeast through portions of Montgomery and Toombs counties in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. Route description The route begins at an intersection with SR 135 in Petross in east-central Montgomery County. It heads northeast into the center of Vidalia to an intersection with US 280/ SR 15/ SR 29/ SR 30. Farther into town is an intersection with SR 292/ SR 297, where SR 292 begins a concurrency with SR 130. Just before leaving Vidalia, the two highways split with SR 292 heading to Lyons and SR 130 heading to the northeast. It continues to the northeast until it meets its eastern terminus at an intersection with US 1/ SR 4 north of downtown Lyons (but within the northern part of the city limits). State Route 30 (SR 30) is a state highway that travels west-to-east through portions of Marion, Sumter, Crisp, Wilcox, Dodge, Telfair, Wheeler, Montgomery, Toombs, Tattnall, Evans, Bryan, Effingham, and Chatham counties in the south-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway connects the southern part of Marion County with Port Wentworth, via Americus, Cordele, Abbeville, McRae, Vidalia, Reidsville, Claxton, and Pembroke. National Highway System (United States)
The National Highway System (NHS) is a network of strategic highways within the United States, including the Interstate Highway System and other roads serving major airports, ports, military bases, rail or truck terminals, railway stations, pipeline terminals and other strategic transport facilities. Except for its northernmost portion, it is completely concurrent for its entire length with U.S. Route 1 (US 1). Concurrency (road)
A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Where multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, it is often economically and practically advantageous for them all to be accommodated on a single physical roadway. Georgia State Route 297 (SR 297) is a south-north state highway located in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The route travels from SR 130/ SR 292 in Vidalia to US 1/ SR 4/ SR 57 southeast of Swainsboro. Route description SR 297 begins at an intersection with SR 130/SR 292 in Vidalia. The highway leaves Vidalia along McIntosh Street. It travels north through rural portions of Toombs County. Shortly after its intersection with SR 298, the route encounters the quadripoint, the meeting point of Emanuel, Montgomery, Toombs, and Treutlen counties. State Route 292 (SR 292) is a west-east state highway located in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It runs from Higgston to just east of Bellville. Route description Higgston to Lyons SR 292 begins in Montgomery County at an intersection with SR 15/ SR 29 in Higgston, where the roadway continues as Saw Mill Road. The route heads east and enters Toombs County, just before entering Vidalia along North Street. State Route 29 (SR 29) is a state highway that travels southeast-to-northwest through portions of Toombs, Montgomery, Treutlen, Laurens, Wilkinson, and Baldwin counties in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway connects the Vidalia area with the Milledgeville area, via the Dublin area. SR 29 was originally designated on a path from Jeffersonville to Irwinton and Milledgeville before being shifted to its current path. It was then extended to its southern terminus. Vidalia, Georgia
Vidalia ( ''vye-DAYL-yə'' , ) is a city located primarily in Toombs County, Georgia, United States. The city also extends very slightly into Montgomery County. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 10,473. Vidalia is the principal city of the Vidalia Micropolitan Statistical Area, a micropolitan area that covers Montgomery and Toombs Counties, and had a combined population of 36,346 at the 2010 census. Description and history The town was incorporated on January 1, 1890. It is the largest city in Toombs County, but it is not the county seat. The original name for the town was Jenkins Station after a local landowner, Warren T. Jenkins. Although several origins for the town's modern name have been suggested, it was most likely given by the daughter Samuel Hawkins, the president of the Savannah, Americus and Montgomery Railroad (later the S.A.M shortline), though which of his four daughters suggested the name, or how she came to it, is not known. This route is part of a multi two-state route 15 that begins at Florida and ends at Georgia at the North Carolina state line.
