Georgia Rugby Union Team
The Georgia national rugby union team (Georgian: საქართველოს მორაგბეთა ეროვნული ნაკრები), nicknamed The Borjgalosnebi (''The Men of the Borjgali'' i.e. the traditional Georgian seven-armed solar symbol) or more commonly as The Lelos (from the ancient but still popular traditional Georgian folk-sport of Lelo burti, a sort of rugby played with a pumpkin-shaped ball), represents Georgia in men's international rugby union. The team is administered by the Georgian Rugby Union and takes part in the annual Rugby Europe Championship and the Rugby World Cup, which takes place every four years. Georgia is currently considered a second-tier rugby union nation and is one of the world's fastest-growing rugby nations. Borjgali
Borjgali ( ka, ბორჯღალი; also Borjgala or Borjgalo) is a Georgian symbol of the Sun and eternity. The borjgali is often represented with seven rotating wings over the tree of life which can be used to create various shapes and variations and can be considered as a main symbol of Georgian culture. Etymology The term ''Borjgali'' is believed to derive from Megrelian word ბარჩხალი (''barchkhali''), which literally means "strong shining". Some other scholars believe that it has different origins. In old Megrelian ''borj'' means "time" and ''gal'' means "pass" or "flow". So the whole phrase would mean "the flow of time". Usage This pre-Christian symbol was widely used in both western (Colchis) and eastern Georgia (in Georgian architecture's ''Dedabodzi'', "mother-pillar") as part of a Darbazi in the Kura–Araxes culture) as a holy symbol. World Rugby Tbilisi Cup
The World Rugby Tbilisi Cup is a rugby union competition that was first held in 2013 at Avchala Stadium in Tbilisi with the hosts Georgia joined by Uruguay, who regularly take part in the Nations Cup, and two newly founded teams: Emerging Ireland, who were made up of young Irish players that didn't get selected for the Lions tour to Australia or the national side's tour to North America, and a South Africa President's XV, composed of Currie Cup players. The Namibia national rugby union team represents Namibia in men's international rugby union competitions nicknamed the Welwitschias, are a tier-two nation in the World Rugby tier system, and have participated in five Rugby World Cup competitions since their first appearance in 1999. The England national rugby union team represents England in men's international rugby union. They compete in the annual Six Nations Championship with France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. Claude Saurel (born 17 April 1948) is a former French people, French rugby union footballer and current coach. He is a former head coach of the Russia national rugby union team, Russia national rugby team. Saurel played his rugby for Béziers, his position being flanker. He went on to become the national coach of Morocco national rugby union team, Morocco. He made the move to Georgia after he was invited to conduct an audit of Georgian rugby in 1997. He went on to work with their Rugby Sevens team, until he was appointed as the national head coach in the summer of 1999. His appointment as head coach saw a surge in success for Georgian rugby. 2017 Rugby Europe Championship
The 2017 Rugby Europe Championship is the premier rugby union competition outside of the Six Nations Championship in Europe. It is the inaugural Championship under its new format, that saw Belgium, Georgia, Germany, Romania, Russia and Spain compete for the title. This year's edition of the Rugby Europe Championship also served as the 2019 Rugby World Cup qualifiers for the European region. The team with the best record across the 2017 and 2018 Championships qualifies as Europe 1. 2000–01 European Nations Cup First Division
The 2001 European Nations Cup was the second annual competition for tier 2 and 3 European rugby union nations. The competition was originally planned to continue on an annual basis like the Six Nations but at the end of the season it was decided to change to a two-year cycle allowing home and away games. The results of this season were added to the 2001–02 European Nations Cup First Division standings. Georgia won their first ever European Championship, which was overshadowed slightly by Romania winning the extended championship the following year. The Rugby World Cup is a men's rugby union tournament contested every four years between the top international teams. The tournament is administered by World Rugby, the sport's international governing body. The winners are awarded the Webb Ellis Cup, named after William Webb Ellis, who according to a popular legend, invented rugby by picking up the ball during a football game. The tournament was first held in 1987 and was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. Four countries have won the trophy; New Zealand and South Africa three times, Australia twice, and England once.
