Georgia Bulldogs Baseball
The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team represents the University of Georgia in NCAA Division I college baseball. Along with most other Georgia athletic teams, the baseball team participates in the Eastern division of the Southeastern Conference. Georgia won the College World Series in 1990. The Bulldogs play their home games on UGA's campus in Foley Field, and are coached by head coach Scott Stricklin. History The Georgia Baseball team has seen most of its success in recent years, including winning the 1990 College World Series, as well as making the trip to Omaha in 1987, 1990, 2001, 2004, 2006, and 2008. Josh Brooks (born May 28, 1980) is an American university sports administrator who currently serves as athletic director at the University of Georgia. Nolen Richardson
Clifford Nolen Richardson (January 18, 1903 – September 25, 1951) was a third baseman in Major League Baseball. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and attended college at the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Richardson played for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds in a span of six seasons between 1929 and 1939. In 168 career games, he collected 117 hits in 473 at bats for a .247 batting average. Steve Webber
Stephen Cecil Webber (November 21, 1947 – November 12, 2022) was an American baseball player and coach. Born in Fairfield, Iowa, and raised in nearby Stockport, Iowa, Stockport, Webber played college baseball at Southern Illinois University and participated in the 1969 College World Series. He was head coach at the University of Georgia from 1981 to 1996, leading the team to a national title in 1990. He later served as an assistant coach for several minor league teams. Webber holds many marks of distinction in Iowa High School Baseball. On June 13, 1966, he struck out 23 batters for Van Buren High School in a seven-inning game against WACO High School. In that season, he struck out 222 batters (9th best in Iowa High School Baseball history) and pitched for an ERA of 0.51 in 95 innings (tied for 18th all time in Iowa). Ronald George Polk (born January 12, 1944) is an American professional coach in NCAA Division I college baseball. He was a long-time head baseball coach at Mississippi State and is considered to be the "Father of Southeastern Conference Baseball." Polk compiled one of the most successful winning records, as a coach, in both MSU and Southeastern Conference history. In 31 seasons as an SEC coach he compiled a 1218-638-2 () record. His career record stands at 1373-702-2. He currently ranks 9th on the all-time wins list nationally for 10+ year Division I coaches. David Perno
David Perno is the former head baseball coach at the University of Georgia. In 11 seasons he compiled a record of 384-329-1. He led the program to five NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, NCAA tournaments, including three College World Series. He was named the 2004 Coach of the Year by Baseball America. That same year, he won his first SEC championship. His 2006 team went 47–23, but the next year, however, they went 23–33. In 2008, his team did much better, going 45–25–1 (20–9–1 SEC) and won his second SEC championship. That one tie was at LSU Tigers, LSU due to an SEC travel curfew. Daniel Hamilton Magill Jr. (January 25, 1921 – August 23, 2014) was an American Sports Information Director, Head Tennis Coach, and Georgia Bulldog Club secretary for the University of Georgia, known throughout the state of Georgia and the South for his unparalleled contributions to the Georgia Bulldog athletic program. Magill was also an accomplished tennis player. The 2008 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from May 30 through June 25, 2008 and was part of the 2008 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected out of an eligible 286 teams on May 26, 2008. Thirty teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conference, and 34 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. 2006 College World Series
The 2006 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from June 2 through June 26, . Sixty-four NCAA Division I college baseball teams met after having played their way through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament, to play in the NCAA tournament. The tournament culminated with 8 teams in the College World Series at historic Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska.
