Georgi Gospodinov
Georgi Gospodinov ( bg, Георги Господинов; born January 7, 1968) is a Bulgarian writer, poet and playwright. One of the most translated Bulgarian authors after 1989, he has four poetry books awarded with national literary prizes. First of them, ''Lapidarium'' (1992), won the National Debut Prize. Volumes of his selected poetry came out in German, Portuguese, Czech and Macedonian. Literary career Gospodinov became internationally known by his ''Natural novel'', which was published in 21 languages, including English (Dalkey Archive Press, 2005), German, French, Spanish, Italian, etc. ''The New Yorker'' described it as an “anarchic, experimental debut”, according to ''The Guardian'', it is “both earthy and intellectual”, Le Courrier (Geneve) calls it “a machine for stories.” ''And Other Stories'' (2001), collection of short stories, came out in German, French, English, Italian and was longlisted for Frank O'Connor Award. The Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film is an award given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as part of the annual Academy Awards, or Oscars, since the 5th Academy Awards (with different names), covering the year 1931–32, to the present. Theodore Ushev
Theodore Asenov Ushev ( bg, Теодор Асенов Ушев; born 4 February 1968) is a Bulgarian animator, film director and screenwriter based in Montreal. He is best known for his work at the National Film Board of Canada, including the 2016 animated short '' Blind Vaysha'', which was nominated for an Academy Award. He is a Chevalier of the ''Ordre des Arts et des Lettres'' of France. Life and career Ushev was born on 4 February 1968 in Kyustendil, Bulgaria, and graduated in stage decoration, animation, and make-up at Plovdiv's School of Scenic Arts. He obtained a master's degree in graphic design from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia. He first made a name as a poster and graphic designer, before moving to Montreal in 1999. Blind Vaysha
''Blind Vaysha'' (French: ''Vaysha l'aveugle'') is a 2016 animated short by Theodore Ushev, produced by Marc Bertrand for the National Film Board of Canada, with the participation of ARTE France. Based on a story by Georgi Gospodinov, the film tells the story of a girl who sees the past out of her left eye and the future from her right—and so is unable to live in the present. Montreal actress Caroline Dhavernas performed the narration for the film, in both its French and English language versions. The film incorporates music from Bulgarian musician and composer Kottarashky and is his and Ushev's fourth collaboration. Development Ushev has stated that the project began at Fontevraud Abbey in France, where he worked for a month on the story and was inspired by medieval drawing. Gregor von Rezzori (; May 13, 1914 – April 23, 1998), born Gregor Arnulph Herbert Hilarius von Rezzori d’Arezzo, was an Austrian-born, Romanian, German-language novelist, memoirist, screenwriter and author of radio plays, as well as an actor, journalist, visual artist, art critic and art collector. He was fluent in German, Romanian, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Yiddish, French, and English; during his life, von Rezzori was successively a citizen of Austria-Hungary, Romania, and the Soviet Union, before becoming a stateless person and spending his final years as a citizen of Austria.
