George Wells (engineer)
Percy Wells (15 February 1825 – 2 December 1909) was an English businessman who had a career in the colony of South Australia. Wells acted as agent in South Australia for the English marine engineering firm of Wells Brothers, of which his brother George Wells was a principal. Business career Wells arrived in Port Adelaide in May 1858, and for nearly two years worked as accountant for the ''Adelaide Advertiser''. He was then engaged by the firm of Philip Levi & Co., in which his uncle Alfred Watts was a partner. Subsequently, he entered into partnership with Watts as agents for English investors who had a plan unveiled in 1869 to construct an outer harbour in Largs Bay free of cost to the South Australian Government. This project, if approved, would allow the berthing of ships of deeper draught than possible in Port Adelaide, despite extensive (and expensive) dredging. George Wells (November 8, 1909 – November 27, 2000) was an American screenwriter and producer, best known for making light comedies and musicals for MGM. Biography Wells was the son of vaudevillian Billy K. Wells. He studied at New York University, then worked as a writer on radio on programs such as '' The Jack Pearl Show'' and ''Lux Radio Theatre''. Wells joined MGM as a screenwriter in 1943. He stayed there until 1970 when he retired. His first credit was for ''The Show-Off'' (1946), a Red Skelton film. He wrote ''Good Old Summertime'', a biopic of George Evans for Arthur Freed to star Frank Sinatra but it was not made. George Wells (born October 30, 1947) is a retired American professional wrestler and Canadian Football League player who competed in North American regional promotions during the early 1970s and 1980s including the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA), Pacific Northwest Wrestling (PNW), Stampede Wrestling, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), most notably as the opponent of Jake "The Snake" Roberts at WrestleMania 2. It was during this live PPV match that Roberts, after having defeated Wells, had placed his pet snake "Damien" on Wells causing him to foam at the mouth. George Crichton Wells
George Crichton Wells FRCP (13 July 1914 – 16 January 1999) was a dermatologist at St Thomas' Hospital and St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin (now closed). He was the son of Sir Richard Wells, 1st Baronet, the brother of Sir Charles Wells, 2nd Baronet, and he gave his name to Wells' syndrome. Career Following a scholarship to Pembroke College, Cambridge he went to St Thomas' Hospital to continue his clinical studies and qualified in 1939. He prematurely attempted and failed his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). After a spell at the Royal Army Medical Corps depot at Church Crookham as a major he found himself in unfulfilling, general duties. Volunteering to be a paratrooper he quickly found himself active in war theatres in Tunisia, Sicily, Greece and France during World War II.
