George Watt (botanist)
Sir George Watt (24 April 1851 – 2 April 1930) was a Scottish physician and botanist who worked in India as "Reporter" on economic botany and during the course of his career in India he compiled a major multivolume work, ''The'' ''Dictionary of Economic Products of India'', the last volume of which was published in 1893. An abridged edition of his work was also published as the single volume ''Commercial Products of India'' in 1908. He is honoured in the binomials of several plants named after him. Life and career Watt was born in Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the third son of John Watt. He was educated at Grammar School, King's College and Marischal College, Aberdeen, and later attended both the University of Aberdeen and the University of Glasgow. George Watt (rugby League)
George Watt (28 April 1917 – 28 February 2010) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. A New South Wales state and Australian international representative forward, he played his club football in Sydney for Eastern Suburbs and Balmain, winning premierships with both clubs. Watt then continued his career with English clubs Hull FC ( Heritage № 508) and Rochdale. Playing career A Hooker, Watt was the nephew of Australian international Horrie Watt, George played in Sydney's NSWRFL Premiership for the Balmain club, winning the 1939 and 1944 seasons' grand finals with them. He then moved to cross-town rivals Eastern Suburbs where he was a member of their 1945 premiership winning side. In 1946 Watt was selected to represent Australia and played in all three Test matches of the series against Great Britain. He moved to Boorowa, New South Wales in 1947. Biography Watt studied art at Gray's School of Art, Edinburgh and the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh. Sir George Steven Harvie-Watt, 1st Baronet, QC, TD, DL, FRSA (23 August 1903 – 18 December 1989) was a British barrister and Conservative Party politician. Harvie-Watt studied at George Watson's College in Edinburgh, then at the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh. In 1924, he was commissioned into the Territorial Army Royal Engineers. In 1930, he became a barrister at Inner Temple, while at the 1931 general election, he was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Keighley. He lost his seat in 1935, but re-entered Parliament by winning a by-election for the seat of Richmond (Surrey) in 1937.
