George Washington Rightmire
George Washington Rightmire (November 15, 1868 – December 23, 1952), born in Lawrence County, Ohio, was the sixth President of Ohio State University. He graduated from Ohio State in 1895 and taught in the Columbus Public Schools for seven years. From 1904 to 1919 he studied and practiced intellectual property law in Columbus, Ohio. He was an instructor and professor, before becoming the dean of the Moritz College of Law, College of Law at Ohio State University. In 1925, he served as the acting president of the university for about four months. He eventually took the presidential office in 1926. Rightmire Hall, a science laboratory at Ohio State, is named in his honor. Rightmire was the Ohio State University President from March 1, 1926 to July 1, 1938. Personal life Rightmire died in Columbus on December 23, 1952. Lawrence County, Ohio
Lawrence County is the southernmost county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 58,240. Its county seat is Ironton. The county was created in 1815 and later organized in 1817. It is named for James Lawrence, the naval officer famous for the line "do not give up the ship". Lawrence County is part of the Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area. History The earliest European-American settlers, Luke Kelly and his family, and May Keyser, settled at Hanging Rock along the Ohio River in 1796, having migrated from the east. Columbus City Schools, formerly known as Columbus Public Schools, is the official school district for the city of Columbus, Ohio, and serves most of the city (portions of the city are served by suburban school districts). William Oxley Thompson
William Oxley Thompson, D.D. (November 5, 1855 – December 9, 1933) was the fifth President of The Ohio State University. Biography Thompson was born in Cambridge, Ohio to David Glenn Thompson and Agnes Miranda Oxley. Thompson was educated at Muskingum College and Western Theological Seminary. An ordained minister, Thompson spent the first half of his career in Presbyterian ministry. Upon his first wife's death in 1885 he turned to higher education and became the first president of the Longmont Presbyterian College founded by the Presbyterian Synod of Colorado. He was appointed president of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1891 and served until 1899 when he resigned to become president of the Ohio State University.
