George Warren (MP)
Sir George Warren KB (7 February 1735 – 31 August 1801), of Poynton Lodge in Cheshire, was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1758 and 1796. Early life Warren was the only son of Edward Warren of Poynton and his wife Elizabeth Cholmondeley, daughter of George Cholmondeley, 2nd Earl of Cholmondeley and was born on 7 February 1735. His father died two years later in 1737 and he inherited Poynton Lodge which he rebuilt in the 1750s. He joined the army and was ensign in the 3rd Foot Guards in 1755 and was promoted to captain in 1756. In May 1758 he eloped to Edinburgh with a rich heiress, Jane Revell daughter of Thomas Revell, MP of Fetcham Park, Surrey. She was a ward of Samuel Egerton of Tatton. Warren married Jane and the marriage settlement resolved the encumbrances on his estates. He then retired from the army. George Warren (missionary)
George Warren ( - died 26 July 1812) was a British Methodist missionary. He was the first Wesleyan Methodist in Africa and went to Sierra Leone in November 1811. Rev. Warren had been an itinerant preacher travelling through England and Wales for John Wesley's circuits. Warren volunteered to become a missionary and educationalist in Sierra Leone, and sailed there in 1811 on board the ''Traveller'', captained by Paul Cuffee. He was accompanied by three school teachers: Jonathan Raynor, John Healey and Thomas Hirst. He was a juror during the trial of Samuel Samo Samuel Samo was a Dutch slave trader who was the first person to be prosecuted under the British Slave Trade Felony Act 1811. Samuel Samo was the uncle of John Samo, a Dutch shopkeeper who served as King's Advocate and Member of His Majesty's C ... in 1812. George Warren (East India Company Officer)
George Warren (c.1801 – 1884) was a British General who was a major figure in the Afghan and Indian wars of the early 19th century. Biography George Warren was born in Topsham, Devon about 1801. He joined the Honourable East India Company's 1st Bengal European Regiment (which, much later after several mergers, became the Royal Munster Fusiliers) and was stationed in India. On 4 March 1823, Lieutenant Warren arrived in Madras aboard . On 18 January 1826, he took part in the Storming of the Jungeena Gate at Bhurtpore. On 16 March 1839, as a Brigadier, he described the soldiers' appearance during the passage of the Bolan Pass as On 17 September of the same year, he was awarded the Order of the Dooranee Empire, 3rd class. He progressed quickly to the rank of General and remained in India until the early 1860s. George Fleming Warren, 2nd Baron de Tabley PC (28 October 1811 – 19 October 1887) was a British Liberal politician. He notably served as Treasurer of the Household under William Ewart Gladstone between 1868 and 1872. Background Born George Fleming Leicester, he was the eldest son of John Leicester, 1st Baron de Tabley, by his wife Georgina Maria Cottin, daughter of Josiah Cottin. A godson of George IV, he was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. George Washington Warren (October 1, 1813 – May 13, 1883) was a Massachusetts attorney, jurist, and politician who served as the first mayor of Charlestown, Massachusetts. George Warren (prospector)
George Warren (1835–1893) worked as a Prospecting, prospector in the Tombstone, Arizona, Tombstone and Bisbee, Arizona region during the late 19th century. He is credited with having located the body of copper ore, which later was known as the Copper Queen Mine, one of Arizona's most productive copper mines. Warren drank too much and bet his interest in the mine on a foot race against a horse and lost. In 1880 pioneer photographer C. S. Fly often visited Bisbee on miners' paydays and he took a photo of Warren. The image was used as a model for the miner posing with long-handled spade on the Seal of Arizona. His pauper's grave, originally only marked by a wooden plank saying "G.W. 24" in the Bisbee-Lowell Evergreen Cemetery was later commemorated by a large monument erected in his honor. George Henry Warren (November 18, 1823 – April 8, 1892) was an American lawyer who co-founded the New York Metropolitan Opera. Early life Warren was born on November 18, 1823, in Troy, New York. He was a son of Nathan Warren and Mary (née Bouton) Warren. Among his siblings was Harriet Louise Warren (wife of Gen. Edmund Shriver), musical composer Nathan Bouton Warren, and Stephen Eliakim Warren, a graduate of Trinity College.
