George Taliaferro Ward
George Taliaferro Ward (1810 – May 5, 1862) was a major cotton planter and politician from Leon County, Florida. He served in the Confederate Army as a colonel during the American Civil War, dying near Williamsburg, Virginia. Early life and marriage Ward was born in Fayette County, Kentucky, and moved with his family to Tallahassee, Florida Territory, in 1825. He was appointed as Registrar of the territorial Land Office, succeeding Samuel R. Overton. In 1844 Ward married Sarah Jane Chaires, of the wealthy Chaires planter family of eastern Leon County, who had a large cotton plantation. The couple had at least three daughters, Georgiana, Anna, and Mattie, as well as sons. Mrs. Ward inherited properties that were later incorporated into their plantation known as Southwood. George Hull Ward
George Hull Ward (April 26, 1826 – July 3, 1863) was a soldier and Union officer in the American Civil War. Early life Ward was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, and educated in the common schools. He married Emily E. Mayo on June 5, 1851. In 1852, Ward rose to command the Worcester City Guards, a local militia company. Civil War With the outbreak of the Civil War, Ward enlisted in the Union Army. On July 24, 1861, he was mustered into the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry with the rank of lieutenant colonel to fill an original vacancy. On October 21, 1861, he was wounded in action at the Battle of Ball's Bluff and his left foot was amputated. In 1862, Ward was promoted to the rank of colonel, and in 1863, he commanded the 15th Massachusetts, which was part of the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, II Corps in the Army of the Potomac. George Herbert Ward (1862–1946) was Archdeacon of Wisbech from 1924 to 1945. Ward was educated at Malvern and Hertford College, Oxford and became an Assistant Master at St Paul's School, London. He was ordained Deacon in 1893 and Priest in 1894; and served as Curate of St Matthias, Earl's Court until 1898. George Ward ( ga, Seoirse Mac an Bháird; ) was an Irish luthier and maker of violins and cellos from Dublin. His instruments are considered original in style with some resemblances to the Stradivarius model. One of his violins is preserved as part of a collection at the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin. Early life Very little is known about Ward's early life. It has been proposed that he was born in Dublin in 1715 to Samuel and Mary Ward, based on baptism records from the Church of St Nicholas Without, Dublin, 18 May 1715. He had a brother named John (1703–1778), whom there is also evidence of being baptized to the same parents and at the same church on 1 October 1704. John was also a violin maker based in Dublin. George Ward (30 November 1993 – 18 September 2022), better known by the stage name Cherry Valentine, was an English drag queen and mental health nurse who is best known for competing in the second series of the television show ''RuPaul's Drag Race UK'' and for the BBC documentary '' Cherry Valentine: Gypsy Queen and Proud''. George Henry Ward (22 April 1877 – 2 August 1921) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Arthur James Ward (1847-1914), and Helen Ward (1846-1928), née Gardner, George Henry Ward was born in Richmond, Victoria on 22 April 1877. Military service He enlisted in the First AIF on 6 July 1915, and served overseas with the 60th Battalion. He was wounded in action, in France, on 19 July 1916, where he sustained gunshot wounds to his right arm and left leg. He required four operations, and his left leg was amputated mid-thigh, in France. He was repatriated to England, and spent more than 12 months hospitalized there. He was declared unfit for general service in November 1917, and left England in March 1918, returning to Australia in May 1918. On 10 June 1905 he married Emily Haydon.
