George Wall House
The George Wall House, also called Old Man Wall's House, is a historic shotgun house in the Walltown Neighborhood in Durham, North Carolina. History On July 21, 1899, George Wall purchased a lot from the West End Land Company in Durham, North Carolina. Wall, a former slave, was a service worker at the nearby Trinity College (later Duke University). He purchased a second lot, next door, on April 2, 1906. Wallburg is a town in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. It was incorporated in 2004. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 3,051. Geography Wallburg is located in northeastern Davidson County and is bordered to the north by Forsyth County. Walltown is a historically African-American neighborhood in Durham, North Carolina. The neighborhood is located between West Durham Historic District and Trinity Historic District, north of Duke University East Campus. Historically, the neighborhood was a working class neighborhood for African-American employees of Duke University and local tobacco and textile mills in Durham. Walltown was named after George Wall, a former enslaved person, who was one of the first people to purchase a lot in the area.
