George Walker (printmaker)
George Alexander Walker is a Canadian artist and writer best known for his wood engravings and wordless novels. Career Walker trained as a letterpress printer in high school and continued to study the trade in college. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1983, and later from Brock University with a B.Ed. in 1996. He then attended Ryerson and York University, where he earned an MA in Communication and Culture. In 2002 he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts for his achievements in Canadian book arts. He is currently an associate professor at the Ontario College of Art and Design University, where he has been a member of the faculty teaching book-related arts since 1985. He is the graphic novel acquisitions editor for The Porcupine's Quill, an independent Canadian publishing company, and a creative director at Firefly Books. George Paterson Walker (1864 – 1926) was a Scottish businessman who was the grandson of John ‘Johnnie’ Walker of the whisky brand. Biography He was the oldest son of whisky maker Alexander Walker and took over the family business' London office in 1888, overseeing distribution and marketing. George Arthur Walker (25 January 1919 – 31 August 1995) was an English cricketer. Walker was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast. He was born at West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. Walker made two first-class appearances for Nottinghamshire in the 1937 County Championship against Yorkshire at Headingley, and Lancashire at Trent Bridge. Despite bowling a total of 48 overs in his two matches, Walker took just a solitary wicket, that of Lancashire's Eddie Phillipson. With the bat he scored a total of 24 runs with a high score of 10 not out. At the end of the 1937 season Walker retired from professional cricket and joined the Nottingham City Police.''The Cricketer'', 11 September 1937, p. 616. Sir George Gustavus Walker KCB JP DL (18 January 1830 – 5 August 1897) was a Conservative Member of Parliament (MP). The son of John Walker, of Crawfordton, and his wife, Jessy, he was educated at Rugby School and Balliol College, Oxford. He was the Conservative MP for Dumfriesshire, elected at the 1865 general election. He lost to Liberal Sydney Waterlow at the 1868 general election, but regained his seat at a by-election in 1869 owing to the disqualification of Waterlow when he became a government contractor. George Walker (c.1645 – 1 July 1690 Old Style) was an English soldier and Anglican priest. He was joint Governor of Londonderry during the Siege in 1689. He was killed at the Battle of the Boyne while going to the aid of the wounded Duke of Schomberg. George Walker (Kentucky Politician)
George Walker (1763 – August 19, 1819) was a U.S. Senator from Kentucky. Born in Culpeper County, Virginia, Walker attended the common schools and served in the American Revolutionary War. He moved to Jessamine County, Kentucky in 1794 and studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Nicholasville, Kentucky in 1799. He served as a commissioner of the Kentucky River Company in 1801. Walker was a member of the Kentucky State Senate from 1810 to 1814. He was then appointed to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of George M. Bibb, and served from August 30, 1814 to February 2, 1815 when a successor was elected.
