George W. Scott (politician)
George W. Scott (born 1937) is an American former politician in the state of Washington. He was elected to the state House of Representatives from the 46th District in 1968 while a graduate student at the University of Washington. He won the first of three state Senate terms in 1970. Scott would go on to chair the Ways and Means Committee, the Senate's budget writing committee. He did not run for re-election in 1982. Scott's non-elected career included stints as Assistant to the Dean of the U.W. Medical School, Rainier Bancorporation's vice president for Social Policy, executive director of the Washington State Dental Association, Director of Public Affairs for the Washington State Bar, and as Washington State Archivist. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy at Whitworth College and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Washington. His 1971 Ph.D. dissertation was titled ''Arthur B. Washington's 46th Legislative District
Washington's 46th legislative district is one of forty-nine districts in Washington state for representation in the state legislature. It includes the North Seattle neighborhoods east of Aurora Avenue except for the University District, as well as the cities of Lake Forest Park and Kenmore. The district's legislators are state senator David Frockt and state representatives Gerry Pollet (position 1) and Javier Valdez (position 2), all Democrats. Slade Gorton
Thomas Slade Gorton III (January 8, 1928 – August 19, 2020) was an American lawyer and politician who served as a United States Senator from Washington from 1981 to 1987 and again from 1989 until 2001. A member of the Republican Party, he held both of the state's U.S. Senate seats in his career and was narrowly defeated for reelection twice, first in 1986 by Brock Adams and again in 2000 by Maria Cantwell following a recount. Paul Kraabel
Paul Benjamin Kraabel (February 2, 1933 – August 12, 2016) was an American politician and engineer in the state of Washington. Kraabel was an engineer for 15 years, most of that time working for the Boeing Company. He was elected to the Legislature as a representative in 1971, holding office for four years. He represented the 46th district from 1971 to 1975. and served for 16 years on the Seattle City Council from 1974 to 1991. Kraabel was appointed to Seattle City Council in 1975, filling a seat vacated by Bruce Chapman. He won a special election for the unexpired term and served on the Council until 1991, serving four terms. He served as the council president from 1990-1991. He returned briefly to serve an interim councilmember from August to November 1996.
