George W. Robertson
George W. Robertson (October 19, 1838 in New York City – September 17, 1906 in Peekskill, Westchester County, New York) was an American manufacturer and politician from New York. Life He attended Peekskill Military Academy and Charlottesville University Mechanics Institute, and then became a carpenter. During the American Civil War, he fought with the 71st New York Volunteers. After the war he engaged in the manufacture of stoves in Peekskill. Robertson was a member of the New York State Assembly (Westchester Co., 3rd D.) in 1882. The 118th New York State Legislature, consisting of the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly, met from January 2 to May 16, 1895, during the first year of Levi P. Morton's governorship, in Albany. Background Under the provisions of the New York Constitution of 1846, 32 Senators and 128 assemblymen were elected in single-seat districts; senators for a two-year term, assemblymen for a one-year term. The senatorial districts were made up of entire counties, except New York County (nine districts), Kings County (five districts) and Erie County (two districts). The Assembly districts were made up of entire towns, or city wards, forming a contiguous area, all within the same county.
