George W. Olson
George W. Olson (October 25, 1893 – February 27, 1958) was an American farmer and politician. Olson was born in Jackson County, Minnesota and went to the Jackson County public schools. He served in the United States Army during World War I. Olson went to the Mankato Commercial College. Olson lived in Mountain Lake, Minnesota with his wife and family and was a farmer. He served on the Mountain Lake Township Board, on the Mountain Lake School Board, and was a Democratic Party (United States), Democrat. Olson served in the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1933 and 1934, in 1937 and 1938, and then from 1957 to 1958 when he died while still in office. Olson died from a heart attack while attending a Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party meeting. Jackson County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,989. Its county seat is Jackson. History The county was created on May 23, 1857. It was named for Henry Jackson, the first merchant in St. Paul. Geography Jackson County lies on the south side of Minnesota. Its south border abuts the north border of the state of Iowa. The Des Moines River flows south-southeasterly through the central part of the county, thence into Iowa. The county terrain is hilly and carved with drainages and gullies. The area is devoted to agriculture. The terrain generally slopes to the south and east; its highest point is on the lower west border, at 1,545' (471m) ASL. World War I (28 July 1914 11 November 1918), often abbreviated as WWI, was one of the deadliest global conflicts in history. Mountain Lake, Minnesota
Mountain Lake is a city in Cottonwood County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,104 at the 2010 census. Mountain Lake was initially composed mostly of the 1,800 Low German (or more specifically, Plautdietsch) speaking Mennonites from Russia who settled there between 1873 and 1880. Although the city has gradually become more diverse, with the more recent addition of immigrant groups including Lao, Hmong, and Hispanic people, a significant percentage of its inhabitants still have Mennonite surnames. Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party
The Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) is the Minnesota affiliate of the U.S. Democratic Party. As of 2022, it controls four of Minnesota's eight U.S. House seats, both of its U.S. Senate seats, the Minnesota House of Representatives, and all other statewide offices, including the governorship. Beginning in 2023, the party will also control the Minnesota Senate, giving it full control of state government.
