George Tweedy
George Jacob Tweedy (8 January 1913 – 23 April 1987) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He was a one club player for Grimsby Town and earned one cap for England. He played 347 league games in a World War II interrupted career spanning 20 years. He is considered to be Grimsby's "best ever goalkeeper". Club career Born in the rural mining town of Willington, County Durham, Tweedy first played for Durham Schools and then his hometown club Willington F. C. He made his debut for Grimsby against Bradford City on 19 November 1932 upon replacement of Read, the regular goalkeeper, who had a broken finger. At the time of his debut, Grimsby had just been relegated from the First Division, they rejoined the top division in Tweedy's second season with the club by winning the Second Division championship. Willington, County Durham
Willington is a former mining village in County Durham, England, in the foothills of the Pennines and near the River Wear close to Crook, Bishop Auckland and Durham City. Like many communities in the area Willington's economy was largely based on coal mining. The closure of the colliery in 1967 therefore affected the local economy. Since 2000 the area has benefited from housing development and increased transportation links. Although a handful of job opportunities remain, work for many residents is now located outside the village, and Willington functions largely as a satellite village for Bishop Auckland and Durham. Governance An electoral ward in the same name exists. The population of this ward at the 2011 Census was 9,147. Parkside Academy Is a coeducational secondary school. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). 1932–33 In English Football
The 1932–33 season was the 58th season of competitive football in England. For the second time in three seasons, Arsenal were crowned league champions, building on a start of just one defeat in the first fourteen games. They clinched the crown with a 3–1 win at Chelsea in April 1933. Meanwhile, Stoke City ended their nine-year wait for top flight promotion by attaining First Division status after winning an impressive 56 points over the campaign. Hull City and Brentford were also promoted. Everton won their second FA Cup defeating Manchester City 3–0 in the final. Harry Hibbs (footballer)
Henry Edward Hibbs (27 May 1906 – 23 April 1984) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Birmingham and England in the 1920s and 1930s. His uncle and cousinHubert Pearson and Harold Pearsonwere also both professional players. Playing career Hibbs was born in Wilnecote, Staffordshire and, whilst training as a plumber, played for his local club sides Wilnecote Holy Trinity and Tamworth Castle, who had some torrid seasons in the Birmingham and District Football League (the club conceding a total 164 goals over the 1922 and 1923 seasons). Despite this, Hibbs came to the attention of Birmingham when he was 17 years of age, and impressed so much in trials that he was offered professional forms in May 1924. Victor Robert Woodley (26 February 1910 – 23 October 1978) was an English football goalkeeper who played for Chelsea was an FA Cup Winner with Derby County and the England national team between the wars. Arsenal Stadium was a football stadium in Highbury, London, which was the home of Arsenal Football Club between 6 September 1913 and 7 May 2006.
