George Treacher
George Treacher (c.1835 – 28 February 1908) was a Victorian architect known for his pub designs. Early life and family George Treacher was born around 1835 in Clapham, Surrey. He married Emma and had at least three daughters and two sons with her. Career Treacher practiced as an architect and surveyor. He was particularity known for his designs for public houses which included The Opera Tavern (1879) in Catherine Street, London. He also designed the Britannia Public House (1881) at 45 Peckham High Street which has since been converted to a shop and the front lost, and the Yorkshire Grey on the corner of Langham Street and Middleton Place Middleton Place is a plantation in Dorchester County, along the banks of the Ashley River west of the Ashley and about northwest of downtown Charleston, in the U.S. state of South Carolina. Clapham () is a suburb in south west London, England, lying mostly within the London Borough of Lambeth, but with some areas (most notably Clapham Common) extending into the neighbouring London Borough of Wandsworth. History Early history The present day Clapham High Street is on the route of a Roman road. The road is recorded on a Roman monumental stone found nearby. According to its inscription, the stone was erected by a man named Vitus Ticinius Ascanius. It is estimated to date from the 1st century. Catherine Street
Catherine Street, originally known as Brydges Street, is a street in the City of Westminster, London. It runs from Russell Street in the north to Aldwych in the south. It is crossed midway by Tavistock Street and joined on the western side near Aldwych by the eastern end of Exeter Street. History The street was first laid out by Francis Russell, 4th Earl of Bedford, in the 1630s at which time it was closed at its southern end near the junction with Exeter Street. Its southern end was the wall of Exeter House garden and the back of the White Hart Inn in the Strand. The south part was named Catherine Street after Queen Catherine of Braganza, wife of King Charles II. Until 1872 the north part was called Brydges Street after the fourth earl's wife. The A202 is a primary A road in London. It runs from New Cross Gate to London Victoria station. A section of the route forms a part of the London Inner Ring Road between Vauxhall and Victoria, known as Vauxhall Bridge Road.
