George Thomson (footballer, Born 1854)
George Frederick Thomson (baptized 28 September 1853Published by Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians. – 15 May 1937) was a Welsh amateur footballer who helped found the Druids club and played for Wales in their first two international matches. Early life and family Thomson was born in Dudley in Staffordshire, England, and baptized at nearby Halesowen, Worcestershire. He moved across the border into Wales as a child when his family settled in the Ruabon area of Denbighshire, together with his older brother David. Thomson worked as a timber merchant but later assisted his father, who was the manager of the New British Iron Works situated in the Wynnstay district of Ruabon. Football career When only aged 15, Thomson (together with his brother) helped form the Plasmodic club in 1869 which in 1872 amalgamated with two other Ruabon clubs, "Ruabon Rovers" and "Ruabon Volunteers", and under the guidance of Llewelyn Kenrick became Ruabon Druids. Whitchurch is a market town in the north of Shropshire, England. It lies east of the Welsh border, 2 miles south of the Cheshire border, north of the county town of Shrewsbury, south of Chester, and east of Wrexham. At the 2011 Census, the population of the town was 9,781. Whitchurch is the oldest continuously inhabited town in Shropshire. Oswestry Cricket Club
Oswestry Cricket Club is an amateur cricket club based in Oswestry, Shropshire. The club was formed in 1855 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2005 with a fixture against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Oswestry Cricket Club has four teams which represent them on Saturdays during the cricket season, a "friendly" team that plays on Sundays, and the "Aardvarks" team which plays midweek fixtures. Its home venue is Morda Road in Oswestry. The club has a number of junior teams from which the bulk of its players are traditionally drawn.
