George Sullivan (American Football, Born 1897)
George Henry Sullivan (March 15, 1897 – July 5, 1989) was an American football back who played two seasons with the Frankford Yellow Jackets of the National Football League. He played college football at the University of Pennsylvania. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Quakers and Atlantic City Roses. Professional career Frankford Yellow Jackets Sullivan played in 22 games, starting twelve, for the Frankford Yellow Jackets from 1924 to 1925. Philadelphia Quakers Sullivan played in eight games, starting six, for the Philadelphia Quakers of the American Football League during the 1926 season. The AFL folded after the 1926 season. Running Back
A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive American football plays#Offensive terminology, handoffs from the quarterback to Rush (American football)#Offense, rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and Blocking (American football), block. There are usually one or two running backs on the field for a given play, depending on the offensive formation. The Eastern League of Professional Football was an american football minor league formed in 1926 by independent clubs from Pennsylvania and New Jersey (separate from the ''" Eastern Pennsylvania Football League"'' which played in the late 1930s and early 1940s before World War II, along with the Middle Atlantic's Dixie League). American Football League (1926)
The first American Football League (AFL), sometimes called AFL I, AFLG, or the Grange League, was a professional American football league that operated in 1926. It was the first major competitor to the National Football League (NFL). Founded by Charles "C.C." Pyle, (1882–1939), and General Charles X. Zimmerman, (1865–1926), as vice president and starring Hall of Fame halfback Harold Edward "Red" Grange, (1903–1991), the short-lived league with nine teams competed against the more established – then six-year-old – NFL, both for players and for fans.
