George Selvie
George Selvie (born March 6, 1987) is a former American football defensive end in the National Football League for the St. Louis Rams, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of South Florida. Early years Selvie moved several times during his childhood, while following father's military career. He attended Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida, where he was a two-way player at center and defensive tackle. As a senior, he totaled 55 tackles and 6 sacks. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section). A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield.
