George Scott (British Army Officer)
George Scott (unknown – 1767) was a British army officer stationed in Acadia (now primarily Nova Scotia and parts of New Brunswick, Canada) who fought in Father Le Loutre's War and the French and Indian War. Scott first served in the 40th Regiment of Foot starting in 1746 and then became captain in 1751. In 1753, he took command of Fort Lawrence. He made contact with French government agent Thomas Pichon, who betrayed the Acadians by giving information to the British. Scott relinquished command of Fort Lawrence in the autumn of 1754. Preparations were then being made for an attack on Beauséjour, and he was appointed to command one of the two battalions of Massachusetts Governor William Shirley's troops ( John Winslow was appointed to the other). He played a considerable part in the brief siege. When Lieutenant-general Robert Monckton departed Beauséjour in November, Scott was left in command in the Chignecto area. John Singleton Copley
John Singleton Copley (July 3, 1738 – September 9, 1815) was an Anglo-American painter, active in both colonial America and England. He was probably born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Richard and Mary Singleton Copley, both Anglo-Irish. After becoming well-established as a portrait painter of the wealthy in colonial New England, he moved to London in 1774, never returning to America. In London, he met considerable success as a portraitist for the next two decades, and also painted a number of large history paintings, which were innovative in their readiness to depict modern subjects and modern dress.
