George Savoidakis
George Savoidakis (1938 – October 6, 1995) was a politician in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He served on the Montreal city council from 1978 to 1986, representing the Parc-Extension ward as a member of mayor Jean Drapeau's Civic Party of Montreal. Early life and career Savoidakis was born on the Greek island of Crete and spent his formative years in the community of Agioi Deka. He moved to Canada in 1955, studied business at Concordia University, and later became a broker with Whalen Beliveau and Associates. He also served as vice-president of the Caisse Populaire de St. Roch and the Hellenic Community of the Island of Montreal. Savoidakis ran as a Union Nationale candidate in the 1976 provincial election. Councillor Savoidakis was elected to the Montreal city council in the 1978 municipal election, as the Civic Party won almost all seats on council. He was re-elected in 1982. Prostate cancer is cancer of the prostate. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancerous tumor worldwide and is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related mortality among men. The prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system that surrounds the urethra just below the bladder. It is located in the hypogastric region of the abdomen. The Parti des Montréalais (English: Montrealers' Party) was a municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It existed from 1993 to 1995 and won two council seats in the 1994 municipal election. Origins Former provincial cabinet minister Jérôme Choquette launched the Parti des Montréalais after resigning from the Civic Party of Montreal in October 1993. Choquette had been a candidate for the Civic Party leadership, but withdrew from the contest charging that it was skewed in favour of rival candidate Clement Bluteau. As the Parti des Montréalais's leader, Choquette was also its candidate for mayor in 1994. Two other parties merged into the Parti des Montréalais before the 1994 election. Bluteau won the Civic Party leadership after Choquette's withdrawal but himself resigned the following year amid continued inter-party turmoil. The 1990 Montreal municipal election took place on November 4, 1990, to elect a mayor and city councillors in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Jean Doré was elected to a second term as mayor by a significant margin. All mayoral candidates were also permitted to run for seats on council in tandem with "co-listed candidates." In this way, all unsuccessful mayoral candidates could serve on council by assuming the seat of their co-lister (provided, of course, that the co-lister was elected). The Parti municipal de Montréal (PMM) (English: Montreal Municipal Party) was a municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada from 1987 to 1994. Emergence (1987–90) The Parti municipal de Montréal was created in October 1987, when ten people met at a downtown Montreal hotel for its inaugural meeting. Alain André was chosen as the party's leader and its official colours were designated as turquoise and grey. Two months later, the party was officially registered at city hall. The PMM was an obscure organization during its first year, having no official platform and very little money.
