George Salmon House
The George Salmon House, also known as the C. Douglas Wilson Farm, is located near Travelers Rest, South Carolina )''Animis opibusque parati'' ( for, , Latin, Prepared in mind and resources, links=no) , anthem = " Carolina";" South Carolina On My Mind" , Former = Province of South Carolina , seat = Columbia , LargestCity = Charleston , LargestMetro = ... on SC Highway 414, off of US Highway 25. A log house was initially built by George Salmon, a surveyor and one of the earliest settlers to the area, ca1784. Additions to the house transformed it into a two-story plantation plain style house on a brick foundation with a gable roof. In addition to the house, four other contributing properties are on the property including two multipurpose storage buildings, a chicken coop and a smokehouse. Travelers Rest, South Carolina
Travelers Rest is a city in Greenville County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 4,576 at the 2010 census, a small increase from 4,099 in 2000. By 2018 the population had jumped to 5,253. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Travelers Rest, the northernmost city in Greenville County, is located 10 miles north of Greenville and around 20 miles south of the North Carolina border. Furman University, a private liberal-arts university, was annexed into the city limits of Travelers Rest in April of 2018 and North Greenville University, a private Christian institution, is located in nearby Tigerville, SC. History In 1794, the South Carolina General Assembly appropriated $2,000 to construct a wagon road from Greenville, SC, north into the Blue Ridge Mountains, through Asheville, North Carolina, ending in East Tennessee. South Carolina Highway 414 (SC 414) is a state highway in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The highway travels through mostly rural areas of Greenville County. Route description SC 414 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 276 (US 276; Geer Highway) south of Marietta, within Greenville County. It travels to the north-northeast and curves to the northeast and crosses Bull Creek. The highway curves to the east-southeast and has a very brief concurrency with US 25. SC 414 travels to the northeast and crosses over Mush and Johnson creeks. It travels through North Greenville University in Tigerville. On the southeastern edge of the university is an intersection with the northern terminus of SC 253 (Mountain View Road). SC 414 crosses over the South Tyger River. I-house
The I-house is a vernacular house type, popular in the United States from the colonial period onward. The I-house was so named in the 1930s by Fred Kniffen, a cultural geographer at Louisiana State University who was a specialist in folk architecture. He identified and analyzed the type in his 1936 study of Louisiana house types.
