George Ross (American Politician)
George Ross Jr (May 10, 1730 – July 14, 1779) was a Founding Father of the United States who signed the Continental Association and the United States Declaration of Independence as a representative of Pennsylvania. He was also the uncle of the man who married Betsy Griscom in 1773, more famous under her married name, Betsy Ross. In 1952, Ross, George Washington, and Robert Morris appeared on a three-cent stamp commemorating Betsy Ross. Early life and family Ross was born on May 10, 1730, in New Castle, Delaware. He was educated at home and later studied law at his brother those days, before being admitted to the bar in Philadelphia. His father was Rev. George Aeneas, the 5th Laird Balblair Ross (1679–1754), who had 2 wives and 16 children, and was an Anglican clergyman who had emigrated from Scotland. George Berkeley Ross (January 24, 1918 – September 1, 2006) was an early pioneer of information technology in the American petroleum industry who spearheaded the digitization of the exploration for petroleum. Biography Early life at Humble In 1936, Ross started his career working as a mail boy for Humble Oil in Midland, Texas, the epicenter of the oil boom. Ross married Virginia Louise Elkin of the well-established Midland family in 1941. George Allen Ross (October 24, 1878 – January 21, 1946) was a Canadian architect, for many years senior partner in the important Montreal firm of Ross and Macdonald. Life Born in Montreal on October 24, 1878, Ross was educated at the High School of Montreal, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After returning from Paris, Ross was apprenticed to Brown, MacVicar, & Heriot in Montreal and later become a draftsman for the Grand Trunk Railway. He also worked for Parker & Thomas in Boston and Carrere & Hastings in New York City, then in 1907 went into partnership in Montreal with David MacFarlane as Ross and MacFarlane. When MacFarlane withdrew from the firm in 1912, Ross established a new partnership with Robert Henry Macdonald called Ross and Macdonald. He died at his home in Montreal on January 21, 1946. George Ross (footballer, Born 1943)
George Ross (15 April 1943 – 7 May 2016) was a Scottish footballer who played as a full-back in the Football League during the 1960s and 1970s, most notably with Preston North End. Surprisingly, Ross never started his senior professional football career with any of the three Highland Football League Clubs in Inverness at that time, and went south to Preston as a schoolboy. He started with Preston as a junior and after making his debut for them in the early 1960s, he went on to play 386 league games for them. This included a place in the 1964 FA Cup Final team. George Ross (29 November 1869 - 1929) was a footballer who played in England in the 1890s and 1900s. He played for Bury and won two FA Cup finals with them. In 1900 he was a member of the Bury team that defeated Southampton 4–0. In 1903 he was the Bury captain and made a significant contribution to their victory, scoring the first goal in their record 6–0 win over Derby County.
