George Robinson (footballer, Born 1878)
George Henry Robinson (1878 – March 1945) was an English professional footballer who played as a half back for Nottingham Forest and Bradford City. Career Born in Basford, Robinson began his professional career with Nottingham Forest, having previously played for Notts Jardines and Newark.Frost, p. 135 He signed for Bradford City in June 1903. He played in City's first ever Football League game, against Grimsby. He was City's captain as they won the 1907–08 Second Division title, and he also played as they won the FA Cup in 1911, serving as vice-captain. He received two benefit matches, in 1909 (alongside Jimmy Millar) and in 1914. During World War One he made one wartime appearance. When he retired from playing in 1915 he had made a then club record 343 league appearances for City. Basford, Nottingham
Basford is a northerly suburb of Nottingham, England, incorporated into the city in 1877. It gave its name to Basford Rural District, which existed from 1894 to 1974. The ward population at the 2011 census was 16,207, estimated at 16,779 in 2019. Next to Old Basford is New Basford, which is mainly Victorian. Basford lies close to the River Leen, a tributary of the River Trent. 1911 FA Cup Final
The 1911 FA Cup Final was the 40th FA Cup final. It was contested by Bradford City and Newcastle United. The first game resulted in a goalless draw at Crystal Palace. A single goal scored by Jimmy Speirs for Bradford won the replay at Old Trafford. Route to the final Match summary Newcastle were defending the cup they had won the year before by defeating Barnsley 2–0. They faced a Bradford City side who had earned their highest position in the league. Newcastle's preparations were upset by long-term injuries to England international centre-forward Albert Shepherd and Peter McWilliam. Bradford
Bradford is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. The city is in the Pennines' eastern foothills on the banks of the Bradford Beck. Bradford had a population of 349,561 at the 2011 census; the second-largest population centre in the county after Leeds, which is to the east of the city. Bruce Stowell
Bruce Stowell (born 20 September 1941) is an English former football player and manager. Playing career Born in Bradford, Stowell began his career with Leeds United, before signing amateur forms with Bradford City in May 1958. He became a part-time professional in December 1958, and became fully professional in June 1967. Upon turning professional, Stowell became club captain at City. In October 1970, Stowell played in his 344th Football League game for City, breaking George Robinson's 55-year-old appearance record. Stowell made a total of 401 appearances for City in the Football League, and 437 games for them across all competitions. Stowell also played for Rotherham United, making 16 appearances in the Football League for them, before moving to Australia, where he played for Pan Hellenic and Blacktown City. James Millar (4 May 1876 – January 1932) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a half back. Career Millar spent his early career with Elgin City, Rangers, Port Glasgow Athletic and Middlesbrough.Frost, p. 124 At Rangers he played as an "attacking wing half" and won the Scottish Football League title in his one full season, 1898–99, playing in the final five of the 18 fixtures – all of which Rangers won. For Middlesbrough, he made 20 appearances in the Football League; he also made 3 FA Cup appearances. He joined Bradford City in June 1903, becoming one of the club's first professional players. He was a "popular figure" and was elected by his teammates to serve as vice-captain to both Johnny McMillan and Fred Halliday.
