George Philip (goalkeeper)
George Philip (born 29 July 1878) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Heart of Midlothian, Portsmouth and Dundee. Raised in the west end of Edinburgh, he was contracted to Hearts for eight years, though only played regularly in three seasons, being the most frequently used of several 'goalies' tried out during 1900–01, before being loaned out to non-league Cowdenbeath when George McWattie joined the club and acting as back-up to McWattie until 1904. He became the starting 'keeper for two years, only to lose the place after the arrival of Tom Allan. The Southern League is a men's football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from the South and Midlands of England. Together with the Isthmian League and the Northern Premier League it forms levels seven and eight of the English football league system. The structure of the Southern League has changed several times since its formation in 1894, and currently there are 84 clubs which are divided into four divisions. George Philip (footballer)
George Gregory Philip (1890 – 1968) was a Scottish footballer who played mainly as a centre forward between 1910 and 1921. Philip was born in Newport-on-Tay and began his playing career with Dundee, for whom he played in the Scottish Football League, usually as a centre-half (a goalkeeper of the same name was also in the squad in the same period). After a strong 1913–14 season, scoring 15 goals in 37 appearances, Sunderland paid a then club-record fee of £2,000 to sign Philip in 1914. Converting to play as a striker, Philip made an immediate impact, scoring 22 goals in 37 appearances in his first season. Robert Walker Crumley (20 May 1876 – 27 January 1949) was a Scottish professional footballer who made over 130 appearances in the Scottish League for Dundee as a goalkeeper. Personal life Crumley's younger brother James was also a goalkeeper. After service with the Gordon Highlanders during the Second Boer War, Crumley served as a sergeant in the Black Watch during the First World War and saw action on the Western Front and at Salonika.
