George Morrissey
George Morrissey (1 January 1883 – 7 December 1964) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda Football Club, St Kilda in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Morrissey, a forward, came to St Kilda from Ballarat and soon made a name of himself as a tough and aggressive player. In 1911 he joined Tasmanian club North Hobart Demons, North Hobart and became their first ever official coach. He spent the season as a ruckman and represented Tasmania at the 1911 Adelaide Carnival. In 1912 he returned to St Kilda and was appointed captain. His season ended in their round 16 clash against Fitzroy when he was reported for abusing an umpire and received a 10-game suspension which carried over into 1913. He lost the captaincy the following season but had a good year, kicking 22 goals, eight of them in the finals series. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. North Hobart Demons
The North Hobart Football Club, nicknamed ''The Demons'', is an Australian rules football club which plays in the Tasmanian Football League, Tasmanian State League. The club returned to the state league in 2018 after its position was effectively filled by a new club, the Hobart City Football Club after the 2013 season. The club (i.e. North Hobart) was part of the Tasmanian Football League from the early 1900s through to 2001, where the club joined Southern Football League. In 2009, the club was invited into the second reincarnation of the statewide league where it remained until 2013. 1911 Adelaide Carnival
The 1911 Adelaide Carnival was the second edition of the Australasian Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. It took place from 2 to 12 August at Adelaide Oval. A crowd of 20,000 witnessed South Australia convincingly defeat Victoria in the final to win the championship. Organisation Home state South Australia was joined by teams representing Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales. Two teams which had competed in the 1908 Melbourne Carnival – Queensland and New Zealand – did not send teams in 1911. The five teams competed in a single division, each playing the others once. The state with the best record from those games would win the tournament; or, if two teams shared the best record, a final would have been staged. All games were played at Adelaide Oval. East Perth Football Club
The East Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Royals, is an Australian rules football club based in Leederville, Western Australia, current playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Formed in 1902 as the Union Football Club, the club entered the WAFL in 1906, changing its name to East Perth. It won its first premiership in 1919, part of a streak of five consecutive premierships.
