George Miles (organist)
George Theophilus Miles FRCO (23 February 1913 – 26 March 1988) was an English organist and organ teacher based in Birmingham. Education He was educated at King's School, Canterbury and the Royal College of Music from 1931 to 1935, where he studied with George Thalben-Ball. He studied with Karl Straube at the Kirchenmusikalisches Institut in Leipzig. He applied to study with Straube for his main study, Organ; but also composition under the Austrian composer Johann Nepomuk David and piano under Prof Robert Teichmueller, who was a pupil of Reinecke and taught Karg-Elert and others. Miles signed up on 28 September 1935. He remained in Germany for a few years, as he is documented living in Mittelweg, Hamburg a year or so later and did some translating work in an advisory capacity for C.F.Peters. George Henry Miles
George Henry Miles (July 31, 1824 – July 23, 1871) was an American writer. Miles wrote "God Save the South", under the pen name Earnest Halphin, which is considered to have been the unofficial national anthem of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. Biography Miles was born in Baltimore, Maryland to William Miles and Sarah Mickle. His father was a merchant and former commercial agent of the United States to Haiti. George Henry was a dramatist and man of letters. He graduated from Mount St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, in 1842, and then took up the study of law, commencing to practice later in his native city. The profession of law was ill-suited to his temper of thought and to his literary talents, which had early evinced themselves in a tendency to turn many neat verses. George Miles (politician)
George James Gallup Warden Miles (8 May 1873 in Fremantle, Western Australia – 29 June 1952 in Perth, Western Australia) was a long serving independent member of the Western Australian Legislative Council. Miles participated in the Western Australian gold rushes of the 1890s and settled at Marble Bar, Western Australia, where he became interested in politics and the development of the North-West. He married his wife Nellie in 1906. He was a member of the Marble Bar Road Board from 1906 to 1918 and its chairman from 1909 to 1916. In 1916 Miles was elected to the Legislative Council as an Independent member for the North Province. He held this position for 33 years, until Labor's Harry Strickland succeeded him in 1950. During the early part of his political life Miles urged the establishment of the now disbanded Port Hedland-Marble Bar railway and the mining of iron ore from Cockatoo Island, Yampi Sound. George Miles (April 5, 1789 – August 25, 1850) was an American jurist and lawyer. Born in Amsterdam, New York, Miles was admitted to the New York bar in 1822. Miles served as New York District Attorney for Allegany County, New York. In 1837, Miles moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and continued to practice law.
