George McMahon (actor)
George McMahon (born 20 September 1985 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish actor. He is known for his role as Jamie Custer in '' Custer's Last Stand-up'', and for his role as Mondo O'Connell in ''Fair City''. McMahon's career began at the age of 14 when he joined the Independent Theatre Workshop and the Helen Jordan Stage School. He won reality television show '' Celebrity Farm'' in 2003. He donated the €50,000 prize fund to three charities of his choice which were The Bubblegum Club; the Children's Cancer Fund of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin; and community-based voluntary organisation St. Michael's House, which cares for children and adults with learning disabilities. ''Stardust'' is a 2006 miniseries produced for RTÉ by Brackside Merlin Films. The first episode surrounds the night a fire broke out at the Stardust fire, Stardust Disco in North Dublin on 14 February 1981, in which 48 people died. The second episode depicts the search for answers and justice by families and survivors. It was screened over two nights on the 25th anniversary of the incident in 2006. It was shortlisted for best miniseries at the 2006 Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The relatives of some victims were against its production. ''Fifty Dead Men Walking'' is a 2008 English-language crime thriller film written and directed by Kari Skogland. It is a loose adaptation of Martin McGartland's 1997 autobiography of the same name. It premiered in September 2008, and stars Jim Sturgess as McGartland, a British agent who went undercover into the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), and Ben Kingsley as Fergus, his British handler. The film is set from 1988 until 1991, the time in which McGartland acted as an undercover agent within the IRA during The Troubles. In 1991, his cover was blown and he was kidnapped by the IRA, although he later escaped from an interrogation and execution, and went into hiding. At the time of the release of the film, McGartland was still in hiding. The film takes its name from McGartland's claim within his book to have saved the lives of fifty people (police officers, soldiers, and prison guards) during his time as an agent.
