George M. Mitchell
George MacGregor Mitchell (born August 8, 1932) is a lawyer and former political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Halifax Cornwallis in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1970 to 1978 as a Liberal. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the son of George M. Mitchell and Jane Graham, and was educated at Dalhousie University and McGill University. In 1956, he married Diane Marion Walker. A nova (plural novae or novas) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star (hence the name "nova", which is Latin for "new") that slowly fades over weeks or months. Causes of the dramatic appearance of a nova vary, depending on the circumstances of the two progenitor stars. All observed novae involve white dwarfs in close binary systems. The Executive Council of Nova Scotia (informally and more commonly, the Cabinet of Nova Scotia) is the cabinet of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Almost always made up of members of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the Cabinet is similar in structure and role to the Canadian Cabinet while being smaller in size with different portfolios. The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, as representative of the King in Right of Nova Scotia, heads the council, and is referred to as the Governor-in-Council. Other members of the Cabinet, who advise, or minister, the viceroy, are selected by the Premier of Nova Scotia and appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor. Most cabinet ministers are the head of a ministry, but this is not always the case. George Cooper (Canadian Politician)
George Thomas Hendery Cooper (born 24 June 1941 in Halifax, Nova Scotia) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a lawyer. He was elected to Parliament at the Halifax riding in the 1979 general election. He served one federal term in office, the 31st Canadian Parliament, during which he was parliamentary secretary for the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice. In the 1980 federal election, Cooper was defeated by Gerald Regan of the Liberals. Cooper was the first Canadian Chair of the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States. He helped inaugurate Fulbright scholarships for outstanding students and academics to enhance mutual understanding between our two countries.
