George Logan (performer)
George Logan (7 July 1944 – 21 May 2023) was a British actor, comedian and pianist. Born in Rutherglen, Scotland, he studied piano at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music. He moved to London in 1965 where he began his drag performance career at a gay pub in Marylebone. Logan was best known for playing the character of Dr Evadne Hinge, one half of the drag comedy double act Hinge and Bracket, alongside Patrick Fyffe as Dame Hilda Bracket. The pair worked together for a number of years until Fyffe's death in 2002. Logan settled in France with his husband, and died in 2023. ''Gay News'' was a fortnightly newspaper in the United Kingdom founded in June 1972 in a collaboration between former members of the Gay Liberation Front and members of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE). ''Bent'' is a free magazine that targets gay men and is distributed to 400 gay bars, clubs and saunas around the United Kingdom. Published monthly by All Points North UK in Leeds, it largely focuses on entertainment, celebrities, film, DVD and music as well as television, comedy and scene news. Description ''Bent''s editor is Gordon Hopps; his involvement with the magazine began in the late 1980s when its earliest incarnation, ''All Points North'', was launched. Since then, the magazine has undergone many changes. It was relaunched in the mid-1990s as ''North of Watford'' (NOW) but the logo was challenged by IPC Media who also have a title called ''NOW''. Straight Man
The straight man is a stock character in a comedy performance, especially a double act, sketch comedy, or farce. When a comedy partner behaves eccentrically, the straight man is expected to maintain composure. The direct contribution to the comedy a straight man provides usually comes in the form of a deadpan. A straight man with no direct comedic role has historically been known as a stooge. Typically, he is expected to feed the funny man lines that he can respond to for laughs (and is hence sometimes known as a feed), while seeking no acclamation for himself. Ivor Novello (born David Ivor Davies; 15 January 1893 – 6 March 1951) was a Welsh actor, dramatist, singer and composer who became one of the most popular British entertainers of the first half of the 20th century. He was born into a musical family, and his first successes were as a songwriter. His first big hit was " Keep the Home Fires Burning" (1914), which was enormously popular during the First World War. His 1917 show, ''Theodore & Co'', was a wartime hit. After the war, Novello contributed numbers to several successful musical comedies and was eventually commissioned to write the scores of complete shows. He wrote his musicals in the style of operetta and often composed his music to the libretti of Christopher Hassall.
