George Alfred Lawrence
George Alfred Lawrence (25 March 1827 – 23 September 1876) was a British novelist and barrister. Biography George Alfred Lawrence was born at Buxted, Sussex, the eldest child of Rev. Alfred Charnley Lawrence, Curate of Uxfield Chapel, Buxted, and the Hon. Lady Emily Mary Finch-Hatton, sister of George William Finch-Hatton, 5th Earl of Nottingham and 10th Earl of Winchilsea. He was educated at Rugby and at Balliol College, Oxford, and in 1851 married Mary Ann Georgiana Kirwan. He was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1852, but soon abandoned the law for literature. George Lawrence (painter)
George Feather Lawrence (1901–1981) was born in Sydney, Australia and for many years was regarded as one of the foremost painters in the impressionist style. He studied under Julian Rossi Ashton at the famous Sydney Art School in the old Queen Victoria Building; and later in London and Paris. Early life and education George Feather Lawrence was raised in the Sydney suburb of Annandale. Born on 12 June 1901, the fifth child of seven, to English parents from Gloucestershire and Yorkshire.[ Lawrence was schooled at South Annandale Public, then at neighbouring Petersham High School. After leaving school Lawrence was accepted into the art department of the printers John Sands & Co. as a lithographic apprentice. George Lawrence (politician)
George Lawrence (March 21, 1857 – 1924) was a Canadian politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1899 to 1915 as a member of the Conservative Party, and was a cabinet minister in the government of Rodmond Roblin. Born in the county and province of Ontario, the son of Noble and Sarah (Lyons) Lawrence, both of whom were natives of Ireland, he was educated in Zephyr, Ontario, and Uxbridge, Ontario. In 1878 he moved to Manitoba to work as a farmer. In religion, Lawrence was a Presbyterian. He first ran for the Manitoba legislature in the 1892 provincial election, in the constituency of Killarney. He lost to Liberal incumbent Finlay Young by 153 votes. George Lawrence (footballer, Born 1889)
George Harold Lawrence (3 March 1889 – 1 March 1959) was an English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper, most notably for Derby County. Career Early career Lawrence spent his junior career playing for Manners Rangers, before joining Ilkeston United in September 1909. Derby County In May 1910, Lawrence would sign for Derby County, where he would make his senior football debut against Blackpool on 17 September 1910 in the Second Division. For his first four seasons at the club, Lawrence would play the role as backup goalkeeper to first choice keeper Ernald Scattergood, which restricted his appearances for the first team in the First Division, four league appearances in 1912–13 and nine in 1913–14. The club would get relegated in 1914. It wouldn't be until 1914 when Lawrence would take on the role as first choice goalkeeper, he played a major part in Derby's 1914–15 Second Division league championship, playing in 31 league matches that season. George Hill Mathewson Lawrence (June 19, 1910 - June 10, 1978) was an American botanist, writer and professor of botany who helped establish the 'Liberty Hyde Bailey Hortorium', the Hunt Botanical Library and the ''Huntia'' journal. He was also an avid book collector, including books on the history of Rhode Island, historic books and botanical art. George Newbold Lawrence (October 20, 1806 – January 17, 1895) was an American businessman and amateur ornithologist. Early life Lawrence was born in the city of New York on October 20, 1806. From his youth, Lawrence was a lover of birds and spent much of his spare time studying their habits. At sixteen years of age, he became a clerk in his father's business, becoming a partner in his father's house by age twenty. Career Lawrence conducted Pacific bird surveys for Spencer Fullerton Baird and John Cassin, and the three men co-authored ''Birds of North America'' in 1860. He sold his collection of 8,000 bird skins to the American Museum of Natural History in 1887. Fellow ornithologists honored him by naming one bird genus and 20 species after him, including both the scientific and common name of the Lawrence's goldfinch, first described by Cassin in 1852. Lieutenant-General Sir George St Patrick Lawrence (17 March 1804 – 16 November 1884) was an officer in the British Indian Army. Early life Lawrence, third son of Lt.-Col. Alexander Lawrence (1764–1835), was elder brother of both Sir Henry Lawrence and The 1st Baron Lawrence. His father, an Indian officer, led, with three other lieutenants, the storming of Seringapatam on 4 May 1799, and returned to England in 1809, after fifteen years' severe service. George was born into a Protestant Ulster-Scots family at Trincomalee, Ceylon, on 17 March 1804, and was later educated at Foyle College in Derry. Both his parents were from Ulster, the northern province in Ireland, his father being from Coleraine in County Londonderry while his mother, Letitia Knox, was from County Donegal. George Van Eman Lawrence (November 13, 1818 – October 2, 1904) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Biography George Van Eman Lawrence (son of Joseph Lawrence) was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He attended the common schools and Washington College (now Washington & Jefferson College) in Washington, Pennsylvania. He was engaged in agricultural pursuits. Lawrence was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives in 1844, 1847, 1858, and 1859. He served in the Pennsylvania State Senate from 1849 to 1851 and 1861 to 1863.
