George L. Johnson
George Lee Johnson (born December 8, 1956) is a former professional basketball player. A 6'7" Power forward (basketball), forward/center (basketball), center from St. John's University (Jamaica, New York), St. John's University and born in Brooklyn, New York, Johnson played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1978 to 1985 as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Washington Bullets. He averaged 9.1 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game in his NBA career. Johnson was player-coach for the Long Island Surf of the United States Basketball League in 1992. Center (basketball)
The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five or the pivot, is one of the five Basketball position, positions in a regulation basketball game. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. In the NBA, the center is typically close to tall. United States Basketball League
The United States Basketball League (USBL) was a professional men's spring basketball league. The league was formed in 1985 and ceased operations in 2008. The USBL started in 1985 as one of the first basketball leagues to play a late-spring to early-summer schedule. The league quickly became known as a development league for players, with many players moving up to the National Basketball Association, NBA and many more playing in Europe after stints here. In 1996, the league made a stock offering, a rarity among sports leagues. However, in later years, the league declined as rival leagues appeared and USBL had a tougher time replacing teams that folded. In the last two seasons, the league was mainly a midwestern league, with teams mainly in Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Player-coach
A player-coach (also playing coach, captain-coach, or player-manager) is a member of a sports team who simultaneously holds both playing and coaching duties. A player-coach may be a head coach or an assistant coach. They may make changes to the squad and also play on the team. Very few current major professional sports teams have head coaches who are also players, though it is common for senior players to take a role in managing more junior athletes.
