George Kindel
George John Kindel (March 2, 1855 – February 28, 1930) was an American politician from Colorado who served one term in the United States House of Representatives from 1913 to 1915. Biography Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kindel attended the public schools and St. Augustine's School in Cincinnati. Beginning in 1871, he apprentice as an upholsterer and mattress maker before relocating to Denver, Colorado in 1877. He worked throughout his career in the upholstery, mattress, and furniture business. Political career He served as a member of the board of supervisors of the city and county of Denver from 1910 to 1914. In 1912, Kindel won election as a Democrat to the Sixty-third Congress, which convened from March 4, 1913 to March 3, 1915. In 1914, rather than seek re-election, Kindel instead ran for the U.S. Senate, first as a Democratic candidate and then, after leaving the party, as an independent. Fairmount Cemetery (Denver, Colorado)
Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, was founded in 1890 and is Denver's second oldest operating cemetery after Riverside Cemetery. It was designed by German landscape architect Reinhard Schuetze. The cemetery was patterned after Mount Auburn Cemetery in Boston. The cemetery is 280 acres. The first year the cemetery opened over 4500 trees and shrubs were planted by Schuetze. The cemetery is the largest arboretum in the state. The cemetery contains many fine monuments, including works by Robert Garrison, John Paulding, Arnold Ronnebeck, Pompeo Coppini and others. The cemetery also contains 3 structures which have been designated as official historic landmarks by the City of Denver: the Little Ivy Chapel, the Gate Lodge, and the Fairmount Mausoleum. Benjamin Hilliard
Benjamin Clark Hilliard (January 9, 1868 – August 7, 1951) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician. He served two terms as a U.S. Representative from Colorado, and was a two-time chief justice of the Supreme Court of Colorado. Early life and education Born in a log cabin north of Osceola, Iowa, Hilliard was the son of Albert George Hilliard who was a farmer and served as private in the 37th Illinois Infantry Regiment under Colonel John C. Black. He was severely wounded during the war, and carried bullets within his body and his right eye was destroyed. His mother, Euphema Ellen Clark, was an educated and cultured woman who died in 1881. At the time of her death, Hilliard had two siblings. His father remarried and moved to Kansas, where he died due to accidental drowning in 1906. Hilliard attended the public schools of Iowa and Kansas. He taught school in Kansas.
