George Kelly (musician)
George Kelly (July 31, 1915 – May 24, 1998) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and arranger born in Miami, Florida. Panama Francis was a sideman in Kelly's band in the 1930s; Kelly played in Francis's Savoy Sultans band in the 1970s, and had played in Al Cooper's band of the same name in the 1940s. Additionally, Kelly led his own bands and worked with other jazz artists such as Tiny Grimes, Rex Stewart and Cozy Cole. "Kelly had a strong tenor tone that looked back towards the swing era while he was clearly aware of later developments." George Alexander Kelly (April 28, 1905 – March 6, 1967) was an American psychologist, therapist, educator and personality theorist. He is considered the father of cognitive clinical psychology and is best known for his theory of personality, personal construct psychology. Biography George Alexander Kelly was born in 1905 on a farm near Perth, Kansas to two strictly religious parents. He was their only child. They moved frequently during his childhood years, resulting in a fragmented early education. He later attended Friends University and Park College, where he received a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics. Early on, he was interested in social problems, and he went on to get his master's degree in sociology at the University of Kansas, where he wrote a thesis on workers' leisure activities. Major-General George Charles Kelly (October 1880 – April 1938) was a British Army officer. Military career Educated at Wellington College, Berkshire and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Kelly was commissioned into the King's Royal Rifle Corps on 11 November 1899. He was severely wounded at the Battle of the Tugela Heights in South Africa in February 1900 during the Second Boer War. During the First World War he served as commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion, King’s Royal Rifle Corps from September 1917 to March 1918 when he became commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade. He led his brigade in the German spring offensive and Hundred Days Offensive, during which he was wounded again in September 1918. George Kelly (c.1680 – October 1762) was an Irish clergyman and Jacobitism, Jacobite. A close associate of Charles Edward Stuart, he is notable as one of the Seven Men of Moidart who accompanied Prince Charles to Scotland in July 1745. Early life Kelly was born in County Roscommon, Ireland, the son of Edward Kelly. His family had longstanding connections with the Stuarts; Kelly's cousin and fellow Jacobite plotter, Captain Dennis Kelly, was the son of Charles O'Kelly, Charles Kelly of Screen, Galway, a veteran of the Williamite War in Ireland. George Lawson Kelly (29 June 1933 – 26 October 1998) was a Scottish footballer, who played in the Football League for Cardiff City, Stockport County and Stoke City. Career Kelly started his career at his home town side Aberdeen before joining Stoke City in 1955. Kelly had a relatively short spell at the Victoria Ground but he managed to get a fine goal per game ratio of 35 goals in 67 games in the Second Division.
