George Jardine (rugby League)
George Jardine (8 November 1926 - 29 May 2015 ) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. Jardine played in the New South Wales premiership competition and won a premiership with St. George in 1949. Career A Wollongong, New South Wales junior, Jardine played five seasons for St. George between 1947-1950 and 1952. Helensburgh, New South Wales, Australia is a small town, located 45 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and north of Wollongong and north and above the Illawarra escarpment and region. Jannali is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The New South Wales Rugby League premiership was the first rugby league football club competition established in Australia and contributor to today's National Rugby League. Run by the New South Wales Rugby League (initially named the New South Wales Rugby Football League) from 1908 until 1994, the premiership was the state's elite rugby league competition, parallel to Queensland's first-class league, the Brisbane Rugby League. 1949 NSWRFL Season
The 1949 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the forty-second season of Sydney's top-level professional rugby league football club competition, Australia's first. Ten teams from across the city contested the premiership during the season which culminated in a grand final between St. George and South Sydney. Season summary St. George winger Ron Roberts’ 25 tries during 1949 stands in third place behind Les Brennan's 29 in 1954 and Bob Lulham’s 28 in 1947 for the highest number of tries by a player in a debut season. St George Dragons
The St. George Dragons is an Australian rugby league football club from St George District in Sydney, New South Wales that played in the top level New South Wales competition and Australian Rugby League competitions from the 1921 until the 1997 ARL season, as well as the unified 1998 National Rugby League season. On 23 September 1998, the club formed a joint venture with the Illawarra Steelers, creating the St. George Illawarra Dragons team which competed in the 1999 NRL season and continues to compete in the league today. The Helensburgh Tigers are an Australian rugby league football team based in Helensburgh, a country town of the Illawarra region. The club are a part of Country Rugby League and has competed in the Illawarra Rugby League premiership since its inception in 1911. History The Tigers are a foundation club of the Illawarra Rugby League, playing in the inaugural competition in 1911. Their first game was a 2-0 defeat to Wollongong. The club, however, didn't always compete in first grade since this time and not always did they have a reserve grade team following them.
