George Howard, 6th Earl of Carlisle of Castle Howard, (17 September 17737 October 1848), styled Viscount Morpeth until 1825, was a British statesman. He served as Lord Privy Seal between 1827 and 1828 and in 1834 and was a member of Lord Grey's Whig government as Minister without Portfolio between 1830 and 1834. Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle (28 May 1748 – 4 September 1825) was a British peer, statesman, diplomat, and author. Life He was the son of Henry Howard, 4th Earl of Carlisle and his second wife Isabella Byron. His mother was a daughter of William Byron, 4th Baron Byron and his wife Frances Berkeley, a descendant of John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton. She was also a sister of William Byron, 5th Baron Byron and a great-aunt of George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, the poet. Henry Edward John Howard (14 December 1795 – 8 October 1868) was an English Anglican clergyman who was Dean of Lichfield. Early life and education Howard was born at Castle Howard, Yorkshire, in 1795, the fourth son and youngest child of statesman Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle, and his wife, Lady Margaret Caroline Leveson-Gower, daughter of the 1st Marquess of Stafford. His eldest brother, George, succeeded their father as the 6th Earl of Carlisle in 1825, his second eldest brother, Maj. Frederick Howard, was killed in action at the Battle of Waterloo, and his third brother, William Howard, was a Conservative MP. He had six sisters, including Elizabeth, Duchess of Rutland. Major Hon. Frederick Howard (6 December 1785 – 18 June 1815) was a British Army officer who fought in the Napoleonic Wars and was killed at the Battle of Waterloo. He is the "young, gallant Howard" mentioned in Lord Byron's poem "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage". In the United Kingdom, the minister without portfolio is often a Cabinet of the United Kingdom, cabinet position, and is sometimes used to enable people such as the Chairman of the Conservative Party or the Chair of the Labour Party (UK), Chair of the Labour Party to attend cabinet meetings (if so, they hold the title of "Party chairman"). William George Howard, 8th Earl Of Carlisle
William George Howard, 8th Earl of Carlisle (23 February 1808 – 29 March 1889) was an English clergyman and peer. Early life He was born in London the third son of George Howard, 6th Earl of Carlisle and Lady Georgiana Cavendish, daughter of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire and Lady Georgiana Spencer (the eldest daughter of John Spencer, 1st Earl Spencer). Howard was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. Career He was Rector of Londesborough (a living in the gift of the Earl of Londesborough) in the East Riding of Yorkshire from 1832 for more than forty years until 1877, although from 1866, due to Lord Howard's mentally incapacity, his duties were performed by his replacement. He succeeded to the title on the death of his elder brother George Howard, 7th Earl of Carlisle on 5 December 1864, he never married.
