George Holburn Snowden
George Holburn Snowden NA (December 17, 1901 – December 15, 1990) was an American sculptor. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1941, was recipient of the 1927 Rome Prize as well as receiving the Royal Academy Order of Merit. He was an apprentice to Robert George Eberhard, chairman of the Yale School of Sculpture and protégé of Auguste Rodin. Rodin bequeathed his sculpting tools to Eberhard, who in turn passed them to George. George's daughter M.L. Snowden apprenticed under him, and later received Rodin's tools. George's work was featured in a retrospective at the Smithsonian. National Academician
The National Academy of Design is an honorary association of American artists, founded in New York City in 1825 by Samuel Morse, Asher Durand, Thomas Cole, Martin E. Thompson, Charles Cushing Wright, Ithiel Town, and others "to promote the fine arts in America through instruction and exhibition." Membership is limited to 450 American artists and architects, who are elected by their peers on the basis of recognized excellence. Saratoga Springs Visitor Center
The Saratoga Springs Visitor Center, located at 297 Broadway in Saratoga Springs, Saratoga County, New York, in the building known historically as "The Drinkhall", was built in 1915 as a trolley station by the Hudson Valley Railroad. It was designed by Ludlow and Peabody in the Beaux Arts style. The building consists of four sections. The three-bay, stuccoed central block is flanked by lower -story, three-bay wings. The rear section has an open porch that served as the trolley platform. It is constructed of hollow red clay tile and topped by a slate hipped roof. The building features a decorative frieze with arrowhead motifs and decorative panels in the Beaux-Arts style. The interior of the central block features a high barrel vault ceiling. Bronx County Courthouse
The Bronx County Courthouse, also known as the Mario Merola Building, is an historic courthouse building located in the Concourse and Melrose neighborhoods of the Bronx in New York City. It was designed in 1931 and built between 1931 and 1934. It is a nine-story limestone building on a rusticated granite base in the Art Deco style. It has four identical sides, an interior court, and a frieze designed by noted sculptor Charles Keck. The sculptures on the 161st Street side are by noted sculptor George Holburn Snowden.
