George Birkbeck Hill
George Birkbeck Norman Hill (7 June 1835 – 24 February 1903) was an English editor and author. Life He was the son of Arthur Hill, headmaster of Bruce Castle School, and was born at Bruce Castle, Tottenham, Middlesex. He dropped his third name, Norman, publishing as just George Birkbeck Hill; to family and friends he was known as Birkbeck, not as George. His mother died when he was four years old; on her father's side, she was related to Frederick Denison Maurice. Arthur Hill, with his brothers Rowland Hill, the postal reformer and Matthew Davenport Hill, afterwards recorder of Birmingham had worked out a system of education which was to exclude compulsion of any kind. George Alexander Hill, MC (1892–1968) was a noted British intelligence officer of the First and Second World Wars. Biography Youth Hill, born in 1892, was the son of a timber merchant with business interests stretching from Siberia to Persia. He was born in Estonia and educated by French and German governesses. He had exceptional linguistic skills, and learned to speak six languages, including Russian. First World War Hill was in British Columbia on a fishing trip when the First World War broke out in 1914. Sir George Francis Hill, KCB, FBA (22 December 1867 – 18 October 1948) was the director and principal librarian of the British Museum (1931–1936). He was a specialist in Renaissance medals. Early years George Hill was born in Berhampur, India. His grandfather, Micaiah Hill, founded the London Missionary Society's outpost there and his father, Samuel John Hill, was stationed where George was born. He attended Blackheath College (later known as Eltham College) followed by University College, London, and finally Merton College, Oxford. George Hill (born c. 1844) was a sailor serving in the United States Navy who received the Medal of Honor for bravery. Biography Hill was born in about 1844 in England and after immigrating to the United States he joined the navy. He was stationed aboard the as chief quarter gunner when, on April 12, 1872, several members of the crew were drowning. For his actions received the Medal of Honor July 9, 1872. George William Hill
George William Hill (March 3, 1838 – April 16, 1914) was an American astronomer and mathematician. Working independently and largely in isolation from the wider scientific community, he made major contributions to celestial mechanics and to the theory of ordinary differential equations. The importance of his work was explicitly acknowledged by Henri Poincaré in 1905. In 1909 Hill was awarded the Royal Society's Copley Medal, "on the ground of his researches in mathematical astronomy". Today, he is chiefly remembered for the Hill differential equation. George Hill FRSE (27 May 1750–19 November 1819) was a Minister of St Andrews. He was a joint founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1783 and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1789, but an active member for much longer, where he succeeded William Robertson as leader of the Moderates. He was Principal of St Mary's College, St Andrews as well as Dean of the Chapel Royal and Dean of the Order of the Thistle. Life George Hill was born on 27 May 1750 in St Andrews. George J. Hill is a Canadian retired ice hockey center and coach who was an All-American for Michigan Tech. Early life Hill was born in Winnipeg. In 1960, he led the Brandon Wheat Kings to a first-place finish in the MJHL championship, winning the league scoring title, Rookie of the Year, and MVP. Brandon won the league tournament and advanced all the way to the Abbott Cup final, where they fell to the Edmonton Oil Kings 3–4. Hill's team had a near repeat performance the following year, this time losing to Edmonton, 1–4. Career After two junior seasons, Hill was recruited to Michigan Tech by John MacInnes. He played on the freshman team in 1962 and watched the varsity club win the program's first National Championship. George Hill (April 28, 1933 – November 10, 2020) was an American football coach who worked as an assistant in college football and in the National Football League. He was the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins from 1996 to 1999. Prior to that, he served as the team's linebacker coach under Don Shula. George Jesse Hill Jr. (born May 4, 1986) is an American professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). While playing for Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) he received many honors, including Summit League Player of the Year and was an honorable mention All-American his junior season. Hill was selected 26th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2008 NBA draft and would spend three seasons with the team before being traded to the Indiana Pacers in June 2011. He spent five seasons in Indiana and was dealt to the Utah Jazz in July 2016. Hill signed with the Sacramento Kings as a free agent in July 2017, but was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in February 2018. With the Cavaliers, he made his first trip to the NBA Finals.
