George Henry Wilson
George Henry Wilson (December 12, 1893 – October 17, 1988) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Hants West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1950 to 1963. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Born in 1893 at Upper Falmouth, Nova Scotia, Wilson was educated at the Maritime Business College. He married Mabel Dorothy Beckman in 1926, and then Marjorie Mason in 1961. A businessman by career, Wilson was the manager of Falmouth Fruit Co-operative Ltd., and president of Evangeline Broadcasting Corporation. Wilson first attempted to enter provincial politics in 1949, finishing 3 votes ahead of Liberal George B. Cole on election night, but the Liberals asked for a recount. On June 18, a recount resulted in a tie between Wilson and Cole which was broken when the returning officer cast the deciding vote for Cole, declaring him elected by one vote. ''The Chronicle Herald'' is a broadsheet newspaper published in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada owned by SaltWire Network of Halifax. The paper's newsroom staff were locked out of work from January 2016 until August 2017. ''Herald'' management continued to publish using strikebreaker labour, and were accused by the union of refusing to bargain in good faith with the intention of union busting. History Early years Founded in 1874 as ''The Morning Herald'', the paper quickly became one of Halifax's main newspapers. 1956 Nova Scotia General Election
The 1956 Nova Scotia general election was held on 30 October 1956 to elect members of the 46th House of Assembly of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. It was won by the Progressive Conservatives led by Robert Stanfield. This was the first election the Liberals had fought after the death of their longtime charismatic leader, Angus L. Macdonald. Public Health Minister Harold Connolly became interim leader and premier following Macdonald's death in 1954, but was defeated at a leadership convention by Education Minister Henry Hicks. The convention exposed a sharp religious divide in the Liberal Party; Hicks was a Protestant and Connolly was a Catholic. Nova Scotia Supreme Court
The Nova Scotia Supreme Court is a superior court in the province of Nova Scotia. The Supreme Court consists of 25 judicial seats including the position of Chief Justice and Associate Chief Justice. At any given time there may be one or more additional justices who sit as supernumerary justices. The justices sit in 18 different locations around the province. Jurisdiction As with all superior courts across the country, the court is said to have inherent jurisdiction. It hears civil and criminal trials. Windsor, Nova Scotia
Windsor is a community located in Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a service centre for the western part of the county and is situated on Highway 101. The community has a history dating back to its use by the Mi'kmaq Nation for several millennia prior to European colonization.
