George Hawkins (athlete)
George Albert Hawkins (15 October 1883 – 22 September 1917) was a British athlete. He competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. He was born in Tottenham and died in Ypres. In the 200 metres, Hawkins ran the race in 22.8 seconds to beat two other runners and advance to the semifinals. There, won again, this time finishing in 22.6 seconds. This allowed him to advance to the final, in which he placed last out of the four finalists. His time in the final was 22.9 seconds. The winner's time was 22.6, a time he had achieved in the semifinal. Hawkins was killed in action, aged 34, during World War I, serving as a gunner with the Royal Garrison Artillery during the Third Battle of Ypres. George Hawkins (footballer)
George William Hawkins (7 December 1908 – 20 July 1979) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Prahran in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Hawkins was a full-forward and centre half-forward for Prahran during the 1930s. He began his senior career in 1932, and became a prolific goalkicker during the era. He scored his first century of goals in the 1934 season, kicking 107 goals. He was a premiership player with Prahran in 1937, and kicked six goals in that season's Grand Final. In 1939, Hawkins kicked a new Association record of 164 goals and was the VFA leading goalkicker for the only time in his career; his record surpassed Western Australian George Doig's national senior record of 152 goals, although Hawkins' claim to the record was disputed because the VFA, having introduced the throw-pass rule in 1938, was no longer considered to be playing the national code. George Hawkins (politician)
George Warren Hawkins (born 1946) is a New Zealand politician. He is a member of the Labour Party. Early life Hawkins was born on 15 May 1946 in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden. He attended Dominion Road Primary School, Mount Albert Grammar School (1960–1963) and then Auckland Teachers' College. Before entering politics, he was a teacher and had also been a photographer for the ''Auckland Star'' newspaper. He later became a company director. In the 1970s he became an anti-nuclear activist and he joined the Labour Party. He became chair of Labour's Papakura branch. In early 1977 he stood as a candidate for the Labour Party nomination in the Mangere by-election, but he lost out to future Prime Minister David Lange.
