George Harding (British Army Officer)
Lieutenant General Sir George Judd Harding (1788 – 5 July 1860) was a British Army officer who became Lieutenant Governor of Jersey. Military career Harding was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1802. He took part in the Napoleonic Wars, being deployed first to Messina in 1807, and then to Gibraltar, where in 1810 he worked with Sir Charles Holloway on the demolition of two Spanish forts and the rest of the Spanish Lines of Contravallation of Gibraltar. He was the Chief Engineer on Gibraltar in about 1831. He was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Jersey in 1856 and was also Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Royal Engineers. George Edward Harding (1843–1907) was an American architect in practice in New York City. George Frederick Harding
George Frederick Harding JP (1858 – 8 July 1927) was an English-born international rugby union player who played club rugby for Newport and international rugby for Wales. Harding was a member of the very first Wales international team that faced England in 1881. Rugby career Harding first played rugby for Newport in 1877 during the founding years of the club. Harding‘S first international cap for Wales was also the very first international game in which Wales had competed. Played at Blackheath in 1881, the Welsh team were humiliated in a crushing defeat to a far more organised and prepared English team.Smith (1980), pg 40. George Matthews Harding (1882–1959) was an American painter, author-illustrator, and a muralist. He served as an official war artist during World War I and World War II. Life and career George Matthews Harding was born in Philadelphia. At first, he studied architecture at Boston Tech. His final choice of careers was influenced by his older sister Charlotte Harding, who had studied art at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with Howard Pyle. Charlotte encouraged him to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He attended the academy at night and worked as an architect during the day. George Perfect Harding
George Perfect Harding (1781 – 23 December 1853) was an English portrait painter and copyist. Life He was a son of Silvester Harding of Pall Mall, London. Adopting his father's profession, he practised miniature-painting, and exhibited at the Royal Academy at intervals between 1802 and 1840; but, like his father, he mainly devoted himself to making water-colour copies of historical portraits. Harding visited family seats of the nobility, royal palaces, and college halls. He produced highly finished copy portraits. He was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1839, but withdrew in 1847. Towards the end of his life he had money troubles, and sold his collections of drawings. Harding died at Hercules Buildings, Lambeth, where he had resided for more than thirty years, on 23 December 1853. He left a large family by a second wife. His portrait was engraved by J. Judge George Rogers Harding (3 December 1838 – 31 August 1895) was a Queensland judge and the founder of the Ashgrove locality St Johns Wood, in Brisbane, Australia. Early life George Rogers Harding was the only son of an English vicar. He was born in Taunton, in Somerset, England on 3 December 1838. His father, also George Rogers Harding, was the vicar at the Rectory of Gittisham, a parish situated on the road between Honiton and Exeter, in county Devon, England. The church, which still stands today, is a fifteenth to sixteenth century building with an attractive stone edifice and the river Otter flowing through its village. When Harding grew up there, the population was only small, at approximately 350 people. George Tryon Harding (June 12, 1843 – November 19, 1928), known as Tryon Harding (often misspelled "Tyron"), was an American physician and businessman who is best known as the father of Warren G. Harding, the 29th president of the United States. Harding was named in honor of his grandfather; however, he did not use "Jr." or the suffix "II" in his adult life. He was the first presidential father to outlive his son, and the second presidential father (after Nathaniel Fillmore) to live through his son's presidency. In his biography of Warren G. Harding, Charles L. Mee describes Tryon Harding as "a small, idle, shiftless, impractical, lazy, daydreaming, catnapping fellow whose eye was always on the main chance". George Hardinge
George Hardinge (1743–1816) was an English judge, writer and Member of Parliament. Life He was born on 22 June (new style) 1743 at Canbury, a manorhouse in Kingston upon Thames. He was the third but eldest surviving son of Nicholas Hardinge, by his wife Jane, daughter of Sir John Pratt. He was educated by Woodeson, a Kingston schoolmaster, and at Eton College under Edward Barnard. Hardinge succeeded to his father's estate on the death of the latter on 9 April 1758. On 14 January 1761 he was admitted pensioner at Trinity College, Cambridge. He took no B.A. degree, but in 1769 obtained that of M.A. by royal mandate. On 9 June 1769 he was called to the bar (Middle Temple), and soon had considerable practice at nisi prius. One of his friends at this time was Mark Akenside the poet.
