George Groombridge
George Groombridge (9 February 1928 – 26 March 2022) was a New Zealand politician and social worker. He was president of the New Zealand First Party between 2006 and 2010. Groombridge was a senior social worker from Masterton. He became vice-president of New Zealand First in 2004 and subsequently replaced Dail Jones as president in 2006. He stepped down from the role in 2010. He was the New Zealand First candidate for Wairarapa (New Zealand electorate), Wairarapa at the 1996 New Zealand general election, 1996 general election. In the 1983 New Year Honours (New Zealand), 1983 New Year Honours, Groombridge was awarded the Queen's Service Medal for community service. Groombridge died in Masterton on 26 March 2022, at the age of 94. New Zealand First ( mi, Aotearoa Tuatahi), commonly abbreviated to NZ First, is a nationalist and populist political party in New Zealand. The party formed in July 1993 following the resignation on 19 March 1993 of its leader and founder, Winston Peters, from the then-governing New Zealand National Party, National Party. Peters had been the sitting Member of Parliament for Tauranga (New Zealand electorate), Tauranga since 1984 and would use the electorate as the base for New Zealand First until consecutive defeats by National Party candidates in Tauranga (New Zealand electorate)#2005 election, 2005 and Tauranga (New Zealand electorate)#2008 election, 2008. Masterton
Masterton ( mi, Whakaoriori), a large town in the Greater Wellington Region of New Zealand, operates as the seat of the Masterton District (a territorial authority or local-government district). It is the largest town in the Wairarapa, a region separated from Wellington by the Rimutaka ranges. It stands on the Waipoua stream between the Ruamahunga and Waingawa Rivers - 100 kilometres north-east of Wellington and 39.4 kilometres south of Eketahuna. Dail Jones
Dail Michael John Jones (born 7 July 1944) is a New Zealand politician. He has been a member of the New Zealand First party, and was formerly in the National Party. Early life Jones was born in Karachi, British India, and attended St Joseph's College Quetta and Garrison School, Quetta and Karachi Grammar School. He and his mother arrived in New Zealand in 1960, and he completed his education at St Paul's College, Auckland, and the University of Auckland, from where he earned an LLB. Wairarapa (New Zealand Electorate)
Wairarapa electorate boundaries used since the Wairarapa is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate. It was first created in 1858 (with the first election in 1859) and existed until 1881. It was recreated in 1887 and has since existed continuously. In the early years, the electorate was for a time represented by two members. Wairarapa has been held by Kieran McAnulty since the . The 1996 New Zealand general election was held on 12 October 1996 to determine the composition of the 45th New Zealand Parliament. Queen's Service Medal
The Queen's Service Medal is a medal awarded by the government of New Zealand to recognise and reward volunteer service to the community and also public service in elected or appointed public office. It was established in 1975 and is related to the Queen's Service Order. The QSM replaced the Imperial Service Medal as an award of New Zealand. Appearance 1975–2007 The original medal was made of sterling silver, in diameter. The obverse bears the same effigy of The Queen as the badge of the Queen's Service Order. Surrounding the effigy are the Royal styles and titles "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.". The reverse depicts the New Zealand Coat of Arms surrounded by the inscription "The Queen's Service Medal" and the name of the sub-division either "for Community Service" or "for Public Services".
